[Question #11462] Recipient of Oral (std concerns)

Hello
I received unprotected oral sex 11 days ago in a MSM setting, and am concerned about Gonorrhea/Chlamydia transmission.
From reading is seems chlamydia rate from oral is low and unusual, even in one encounter.

I haven't had any signs of penile discharge/burning during urination or testicular pain, or pain in ejaculation.
Don't think I have gonorrhea due to lack of symptoms.
Tip of my penis is slightly redder than normal, but that seems be less red from time to time, no pain just a tingle occasionally.
I may have irritated it by checking repeatedly due to anxiety about this. (Pulled foreskin to check etc)

I forgot to mention the other individual does see somebody else apart from me (they met up a week prior to my meeting, but they only see each other, he is in a sexless marriage)

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions.  I'll be glad to comment.

Among penetrative sexual encounters receipt of oral sex is among the lowest risk.  Oral gonorrhea is relatively uncommon and only occasionally transmitted through oral sex.  Thus, most people do not have oral gonorrhea (and even fewer have chlamydia).  When it is transmitted about 90% of infected persons develop symptoms such as an obvious penile discharge or burning on urination.  When symptoms develop, they typically develop within 5 days of exposure.  Chlamydia is only VERY rarely acquired from receipt of oral sex.

I agree with your that it is now very unlikely that you have acquired either gonorrhea or chlamydia.  Unless you wish the reassurance that a negative test provides, at this time I probably would not both testing.  On the other hand, I would urge you to avoid repeated self-examination.  If you were going to develop symptoms they would be obvious and the trauma of repeated examinations can be quite irritating.  EWH

Thank you for your reply.
I appreciate your response and help settling my anxiety over the situation.
Dr.Hook

I had a urine/blood test done on Monday and I should have the results by the following Monday (unfortunately in Canada, they take up to a few days and the clinic I went too is shut on the weekend)

My only other question for now would.be the red on my meatus/external uthera, could that be NGU (until chlamydia is ruled out) or just genera irritation from myself checking for signs infection/masturbation.

No discharge or burning urination still and as you said Chlamydia is a low chance of transmission via Oral (and no symptoms it seems)

I anticipate that the results of your urine test will be negative. At that time, those results will be conclusive, proving that you were not infected.

NGU occasionally occurs following receipt of oral sex. It is almost never due to chlamydia and represents simple irritation from your partner’s oral bacteria. These infections are not a threat to your health or your partners. Alternatively, the redness you described may well be due to the repeated self examination which you have described.

As I said, I anticipate your results will be negative. Certainly at that time it will be time for you to move forward without continuing concern. EWH.

Just received my Urinalysis results today and they came back negative for Gonorrea/Chlamydia and Trich like you anticipated Dr.Hook.
I am still waiting on blood results, but that shouldn't change anything regarding my Negative status of those above correct?

It seems the redness around my meatus/external urethra is either just psychological anxiety/stress around this ordeal, or just from regular Oral Bacteria from my partner, as you said there is no cause for concern regarding that, I have stopped checking it frequently and have noticed it started to not be as red/aggravated.

Since no NGU from Chlamydia or Gonorrhea due to a negative result via Urine test, and this just being Oral Bacteria, should I just take Ibuprofen/Acetaminophen to alleviate any pain if it occurs, and typically would this disappear within a few weeks?

Other than that, I have no more concerns regarding Gon/Chlamydia infection due to the negative results I acquired.

Thank you for all your help, you and this entire website is a great blessing with all of this knowledge and information
Have a good day, and I shall be more careful going forward to not have a situation like this again by being safer in the future

I am confident that the blood tests will be negative as well.  No need to change anything.

Glad to hear that the irritation is improving.  This suggests even more strongly that it was due to repeated examinations.  If the discomfort becomes troublesome ibuprofen or Tylenol should help although I doubt you’ll need anything.  I anticipate it will improve rapidly.

Thanks as well for your thanks.   We’ll close the thread now.  EWH
