[Question #11483] another q about syphilis

Hello, I know I'm back again, but this time with a new exposure, this time with a girl, and there was deep kissing between us. I then had a tpha and RPR test done 102 days after the exposure, and they all came back negative.
A week after this test, I found a circular ulcer on the roof of the mouth, and I was worried that it was due to syphilis. Questions:
1-Are my aforementioned tests conclusive, regardless of the symptoms that came (after) the test?
2-Can the ulcer come after more than 100 days?
3- Should we ignore it as syphilis and look for other causes? Thanks

I should mention that the kisses were very deep and over multiple days and periods (I counted the exposure from my last encounter with her) I also kissed her breast and suckled it a little.

This is a repetitive question regarding a virtually no risk encounter.  Few women have syphilis, syphilis is very rarely transmitted through oral contact, and you’ve proven that you did not acquire syphilis with a conclusive blood test at a time when results are 100% reliable.  The sore you noted in your mouth was due to something other than syphilis.  Syphilis sores do not occur more than 100 days after contact.  You should look for other causes if the sore is still present.

This will need to be your last question regarding syphilis.  The answers to this question are present in your earlier interactions with Dr. Handsfield.  If you return with similar repetitive questions the thread may be closed without a response and without return of your posting fee.  If your unwarranted fears of syphilis persist, please consider seeking counseling for this unwarranted fear.  I say this out of concern for you, nothing more.  EWH

Thank you for your responses. I must clarify that this is a new exposure that is not related to the previous questions. In general, I have a final follow-up. 1- Also, after the test, I had a sore throat, phlegm, and a persistent cough for two weeks. Is this something? 2- Can I ignore any symptoms that came after my test on day 102? 3- If the exposure was more serious, would the answer remain the same? 4- If we assume that I am infected with secondary syphilis during the test, will it affect the results and make them mistakenly negative?

Can we say that any symptoms after day 90 cannot be attributed to primary syphilis and that I should ignore them?

It was clear that this was a new "exposure" - you said that in the first sentence of your question.  Over a year ago Dr. Handsfield emphasized how rare syphilis is in women and how rarely it is acquired from vaginal intercourse- acquistion for kissing still far, far less common.

1. Sore throat, cough and sputum production are not suggestive of syphilis or any other STI
2. Of course you can ignore symptoms occurring after 102 days, particularly when you have just had negative blood tests for syphilis
3.  The answer is not going to change, even if the "exposure" was "more serious" whatever that means
4.  If you had secondary syphilis your blood test would have been positive as was explained by Dr. Handsfield over a year ago.

The average time to the appearance of primary syphilis lesions is 3 weeks.  A primary lesion would not occur more than 90 days after an exposure of any sort.

My warning about repetitive, unwarranted, anxiety-driven questions about syphilis stand.  You have one follow-up remaining.  EWH

Based on the above, can it be said from a physical medical standpoint that I am not infected with syphilis from the aforementioned event and I must search for other causes or take psychological advice to overcome the event?

Correct

I would suggest that you be confident that you are not infected with syphilis.  I would also encourage you to seek counseling as to why you are so focused on the possibility of syphilis.

As you know, this will be my final response.  You should not return to the Forum with further questions about syphilis.  EWH
