[Question #11514] HIV with partial penetration with cloth

Dear Doctor
I'm 43 yr old male. I recently visited a strip club and I ended up getting a lap dance. She was fully nude and I was wearing two layers of cloths, my underwear and my thin pant.During the lap dance, She started riding on me naked and I could feel my penis head inside her vagina .This happened for about 2-3 minutes and then we stopped the dance . Some doctors believe that HIV can pass through fabric .I decided to ask this question from the experts. Can someone catch HIV in this scenario ? Thank you

Welcome to the Forum. Thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment. While i'll provide the reasons below, the fact is that the exposure you describe was no risk for HIV or other STIs. There is no reason for concern and no reason for testing. Here are the reasons why:
1. Most people, even exotic dancers and commercial sex workers do not have HIV
2. STIs, including HIV are NOT transmitted through material. This is the case even when the material gets wet with genital secretions and even when there may be partial penetration during the event- still no risk.
There is no reason for concern and no reason for testing.
I hope that hte information I have provided is helpful. If anything is unclear, please don't hesitate to use your up to 2 follow-ups for clarification. EWH

No, the duration of exposure makes no difference. It was a no risk encounter. EWH---

Thank you Dr Hook
I wanted to ask you a question before we close this conversation. You and Dr Handsfield previously answered some other questions here such as questions number #11013 and #5713 and you recommended testing for those incidents. Just wanted to know if there is any difference in my exposure that you think testing is not needed.
once again I appreciate your help and have a great weekend

In the exposure you describe you had two layers of material on. And at least. 11013. It was clear that only a single layer of clothing was present, and that more extensive penetration may have occurred. I appreciate your reviewing other posts, my assessment is unchanged. That said, if you remain uncomfortable, I would encourage you to test for your own peace of mind.
As you know, with this third response, this thread is now complete. Once again, I heard you not to worry. WH.
