[Question #11557] Environmental HIV/Hepatitis

If someone touched blood from a bleeding cut of theirs, then they touched their shirt, then I touched the part of their shirt with blood on it with a glove on and then I touched that same part of my glove that touched the part of their shirt with blood on it with my other bare hand (I have cuticles and peeling skin on my hand) and then I washed my hands... Is there any exposure or risk of HIV or Hepatitis transmission?

Follow-up questions...
Is there any need for testing?
Can I safely resume sexual activity?

Welcome to our Forum.  HIV (and other STIs) are not transferred from person to person through contact with contaminated material or other inanimate objects.  The presence of a glove only makes the already non-existent risk even more non-concerning.  The situation you describe is not something to worry about.  I see no reason for testing of any sort nor is there any reason to abstain from sexual activity with a regular partner.

I hope this information is helpful.  EWH

Even if my bare hand ultimately touched the glove which could have potentially touched blood on their shirt... Your answers remain the same?

My concern was specifically related to HIV or Hepatitis... To confirm: There's no risk of transmission, there's no need for testing and I can resume sexual activity safely?

Even with  bare hand, still absolutely no risk of HIV or hepatitis.

Please don't worry. EWH

One last follow-up to my question just for clarification and to put closure to this: If the glove on my hand touched a small amount of blood on another person and then my other bare hand with a scratch on it touched the part of the glove with the their blood on it - there is still no risk for HIV or Hepatitis transmission?

Correct, still no risk for hepatitis of HIV.  No reason for concern, no reason for testing.

We provide up to 3 responses to each client's questions.  This is the 3rd response.  Thus this thread will be closed shortly without further responses.  Take care.  Please don't worry.  EWH
