[Question #11588] advice on PEP/Prep help

Hey Docs.
I had a low risk exposure of oral for like 5 seconds and an unprotected handjob. Freaking out over this I seeked out PEP and was only able to get my hands on Ricovir- EM basically Truvada. I had my first dose of it like 3 hours post exposure.

1) Am I correct in understanding that even if the provider had dried semen or something on her hands which I understand is unlikely, would I be at risk of HIV?

2) the fact that I took Ricovir so fast post exposure and will continue to do so for 28 days, would that protect me from any unlikely chance of an infection?

Thank you

Welcome to our forum. Thank you for your questions. The encounter you described is virtually no risk. No one has ever acquired HIV from receiving oral sex or from receiving masturbation ( a hand job.). You are not going to be the first.  If you had ask if you needed PEP, the answer would be an emphatic no.

1. Even if there were dried semen from a person with HIV on the hands of the person performing masturbation there would be no risk for HIV.
2.  Your risk of infection is already zero. Taking pep cannot make it any lower.

I hope this information is helpful to you. EWH.

Thank you doc but I also want to understand if Truvada once a day for 28 days is an effective PEP schedule as this is what my doc suggested as TLD was not available.
I can see conflicting information on this and was just wondering if my doc was right in prescribing this.

Thank  you

Truvada is effective PEP, not that you need it.  EWH---

This is my last question pls bear with me.
I know that truvada is usually taken with Isentress.

And this is purely so that I can close this chapter in my heart. Truvada by itself does it have almost the same effect as that dual combination PEP?

I ask this since a lot of LGBT centers and such say that truvada by itself is useless but I was hoping that the fact that I literally started using it in a matter of 3 hours it would be as effective and would testing schedules be the same?

Repetitive.  Se my response above.  I would have said so if Truvada alone was less effective.

Closing the thread now.  If you return, the question may be closed without a response and without return of your posting fee.  EWH
