[Question #11601] Safe sex

Hi doctors, I had condom-protected vaginal sex with a masseuse, and I did it in less than one minute. My question is: does condom-protected sex with a woman of unknown HIV status bear any risk (as long as the condom doesn't break, of course) should one still get tested after? Is there a risk of getting HIV from this intercourse? Thank you

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your question and for your implied confidence in our service  I'll be glad to comment.  As long as a condom is worn throughout the encounter and does not break (condoms break a little less than 1% of the time they are used), this is safe, close to no risk sex.  I see no reason for concern and no reason for testing for the encounter you describe.  This is the case even if some of your partner's genital secretions got onto your skin.  It is certainly a virtually no risk encounter in terms of HIV risk

I hope that this information is helpful. EWH

Sorry to bother you, doctor. I have one more question. I’m concerned about what you said, which is (close to no risk)instead of no risk. Thank you and sorry to bother you again

Sigh- please don't get alarmed at standard statements.  Strange things do happen.  For instance, you could be struck by a meteorite falling from the sky while reading this- your risk for having that happen ais about the same as your risk for HIV.  Please don't worry.  I see no reason for concern and no scientific reason for testing.  EWH---
