[Question #11605] Oral Hiv and std risks

Hi, I'm a 35yr old Bisexual male in a relationship with a woman.
On Sunday evening, July 7th, I did a stupid thing and met with a guy I previously talked to online. I've given him un-protected oral, and a handjob. He performed the same on me, he also rubbed my anus with his fingers (he used his spit, but there was no penetration of any kind there). In the end, he finished on my stomach.
The next morning I was nervous that I may have caught something so I messaged him. He said that he was clean and that he was tested for HIV, gonorrhea, syphilis, and hepatitis a couple of weeks ago and the tests all came back Negative. He said he was also married and he only meets with people he was comfortable with and that I was the first guy he's been with since his last encounter two months ago.
Since, as previously stated, I'm in a long-term relationship, should I do HIV PCR and other STI tests?  If the encounter was on the evening of Sunday the 7th, will the HIV PCR test be conclusive if I do it on the 18th of July?

Welcome to the forum. Thank you for your confidence in our services.

Honestly, I see no need for testing; you can safely continue your normal sexual practices with your regular partner. That's what I would do if somehow I were in your situation. I wouldn't even recommend testing, although you could do it for reassurance -- more about that to follow below.

First, people rarely lie about their HIV/STI status when asked directly -- so unless you have information that your recent male partner is overtly irresponsible or otherwise not being truthful, it seems very unlikely he has HIV or any active (transmissible) STI. Second, you had a highly safe sexual exposure. The oral sex (both ways) was the highest risk, but still very low.

If you feel you need the additional reassurance of negative test results, then you could have urine and throat testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia (valid now) and an HIV PCR test as you suggest, i.e. July 18. For sure there is no need to test for anything else. And if I were in your situation, I would not stop having sex with my wife.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Thank you for all the information. I'm sorry for responding late. I needed to do the tests just to be sure. They all came negative. Thank you again for all your help.

I'm glad (but of course not surprised) to hear of your negative test results. I'm also glad to have helped; thanks for the thanks!---
