[Question #11609] Oral HIV scare
|
Hi! I’m a female and gave a guy oral sex twice. I took two OraQuick tests at 43 days and they both came back negative. Now today, at 45 days I have a mild rash on my chest that is freaking me out. Do you think I have HIV?

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment. FYI, you are getting a reply sooner than is typical as I happened to be on the site when your question appeared.
You do not have HIV. First let me provide some background:
1. HIV is uncommon among heterosexuals men, occurring in far less than 1% of persons.
2. Performing oral sex on an untreated, infected person is VERY low risk. The average risk for infection from performing oral sex on an infected person is less than 1 in 10,000- i.e. like performing oral sex on an infected person daily for more than 27 years (or twice daily for more than 13 years in your case)
3. Your OraQuick tests are strong evidence that you were not infected. OraQuick results are not fully conclusive until 8 weeks after an encounter but your results are certainly more than 90-95% accurate. If you want conclusive results soon, a 4th generation, combination HIV antigen/antibody test will be 100% conclusive at this time.
I should add that an isolated rash is not a sign of recently acquired HIV. When persons have the so called ARS of early HIV, they have a combination of high temperature, severe sore throat, widespread body aches and in some, a rash, all of which start at about the same time
I would have no concerns about HIV or that your rash could be due to a recent HIV infection
I hope this information is helpful, and reassurng. EWH
