[Question #11671] STI After Hand Contact

I had 2 meetings with same person 1 week apart. Both times the only contact my penis had was his hand and only a little bit. A few hours after 2nd meeting I noticed my penis shaft was sore / red. I was suspecting friction burn or minor trauma. Within this red area are a few small bumps. It has now been 6 days and it’s only slightly better. As never really itchy or painful but feels “sensitive” like a friction burn may feel. Bumps have not changed in appearance. I don’t see blistering. I have been using cortisone 1. Seems like a bad coincidence to start almost immediately after 2nd meeting. Doesn’t seem I was at risk with only hand / genital contact. Could this activity have given me herpes or other STI? Married and very worried about this. I am unsure of my herpes status and don’t remember cold sores but who knows when I was younger? Have tested negative for other stuff prior. Thank you!

I have zero concern that you contracted herpes from someone's hand on your penis.  None whatsoever.  If this is HSV, it is not from this encounter.
Can you be more specific of what the bumps look like?  Could you have had HSV prior to this?

Thank you for the quick reply! Now that I look closely, it appears that I have little bumps around most of my hair follicles and they are always there. It may be that they are in the red / irritated area that made me freak out? They are around 1-2mm. Little but raised. But they are all raised I guess.  They haven’t changed at all in appearance since I seen them 6 days ago. No openings, no fluid, no ulcer look to them. I do it think I have HSV, have never seen one on me. But I have not been tested no. But again, never have had symptoms before. I also have not had my penis in anyone’s mouth or anus / vagina other than my wife’s in years.
Is it possible that an irritated or “burned” area could be here for 6 days? Again, seems a little better looking and it definitely feels better as far as when it touches my pants, etc.
If it is that, is cortisone 1 ok for it?

Cortisone could make inflammation decrease, but it would make herpes worse as it take away the immune response that is needed for the body to make herpes better.
You say you do think  you have herpes.  Why do you think that?
Once again, this situation did not present a risk for acquisition of an STI

It’s just weird to me that this red area is still there a week later. Not sure what could cause that. So, my mind immediately jumped to herpes. But again, it was ONLY hand contact. And I noticed this 1-2 hours after the contact. I’m sure some of this is in my head maybe. If you read previous questions, I used to think I had herpes in my throat and lips. I’d get tingly, then what looked like something there but it would be gone in 2 days. Does herpes come and go in 2 days with no medication?  As far as my groin area I guess maybe I need to go to a doctor ? I just don’t want to see someone that isn’t informed on STI and have them tell me it’s heroes if it isn’t. So to summarize : had a red splotchy area on my shaft 1-2 hours after contact (and technically a week from first contact which was again, 30 seconds of hand to penis), it was sensitive to touch and rub on my clothes. Sensitivity has worn off. But still red. Thought maybe a few small bumps on there in the red area, but could be what I have all over the place. Nothing fluid filled, nothing burst, no open sores / blisters. Cortizone 1 seems to help it from what I can tell. Then, tingling in my lips yesterday but no sores yet on lips.
How long after tingling would a sore present? And do they do away in 2 days on their own?
This guy says he has been tested but not for herpes. Clean bill. No sores that he has ever seen on himself or hands. This is a bit rambling and I apologize for that. Trying to give you as much as I can as far as info. Thoughts??

Forgot to add - also feel a head cold starting. Sore throat with post nasal drip and some congestion / headache. No body aches or fever. My biggest fear is giving something to my wife first and foremost, and losing her as well. I’ve been staying away from this activity and have done only hand contact the 3-4 times in the last few years I’ve had contact with anyone. Same guy. And again, probably 9 years at least since my penis had contact with a mouth or vagina other than my wife’s. So, I assume safe from that long ago? Just wanted to add that info and ask about contact with my wife moving forward. Probably soon. ….

My feeling about this remains the same.  This did not present a risk for transmission of HSV to you.  I'm sorry you are still worried, but nothing you have said changes my mind about their being no risk to this experience.
