[Question #11714] Syphillis
|
I am a heterosexual male who had a sexual encounter with another male 6-7 weeks ago. I performed unprotected oral sex for a minute or so and received oral as well. The guy did not ejaculate. I did not notice any bumps or chancres on this individual. I have noticed a semi painful bump on the inside of my cheek where it creases and my back teeth meet (possibly bit my cheek while sleeping). I'm just curious what the risk for syphillis is because of this encounter and if I should get tested. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the Forum. Thanks for your question. As a generalization, syphilis is not commonly acquired from either giving or receiving oral sex although it does happen from time to time. The lesion you describe does not sound like syphilis however if you wish to be sure, both in terms of time since your exposure and because a lesion is present, it the bump you noticed was syphilis, a syphilis blood test would be positive. I anticipate that if you choose to test, the result will show that the bump you have noticed is not syphilis. EWH---
