[Question #11765] Oral Sex w/ Escort
|
I, male, had a drunken encounter with a trans escort 15 days ago. It started off as a massage that then turned into performing unprotected oral on each other. She did not ejaculate in my mouth, but I did with in her mouth. Now I am stressed about STD’s
About a week after the encounter I started feeling something in my throat. There is no pain and just feels like a “booger” or mucus is in the back of my throat when I swallow. This has been consistent for a week now.
I got tested today, which is 15 days after. Are these common symptoms of a STD? Is the risk high of a specific STD? Was it too soon to get tested? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to our Forum and thanks for your questions. The encounter you described was relatively low risk. Most people do not have STIs, even most single encounters with infected persons do not result in infection. I presume your testing included a throat swab for gonorrhea which is the infection you are most at risk for. Testing at this time will be accurate for Gonorrhea and chlamydia. MIf your partner had untreated HIV, there is no risk from receipt of oral sex and the estimated risk of performing oral sex on a person with HIV is less than 1 infection for every 10,000 sex acts. Your risk for syphilis is also very low but if you want to test, you should wait until at least 4-6 weeks have passed to test. I anticipate that your tests will show that you were not infected, allowing you to move forward.
The symptoms you describe do not suggest any STI. Most oral infections are asymptomatic.
As I said above, your risk for infection is relatively low and I anticipate your tests will be negative. EWH

Thank you so much doctor for your response. I just had a few follow ups if you have the time.
I got my test results back today and everything came back negative except for Herpes Virus 1 IgG. It shows a 33.60 H. Would that be from this encounter and is that a high result?
I did a throat swab, blood test, & urine sample. They tested for Treponema Pallidum Ab, Herpes Virus 1 & 2, HIV, Hepatitis B & C, Chlamydia, Gonnorhoea, & Trichimonas. Is there anything else I should be tested for like HPV and Syphilis from this encounter?
I know you mentioned the timeline should be good for testing for most of the diseases except syphilis. I didn’t even see that tested for in my results and based off my other results and “lower” risk experience, would you say it’s safe to have unprotected sex now with a partner or worth waiting a few more weeks to get tested for syphilis. I feel much better after speaking to you and getting my results but not sure if that would be irresponsible. Thanks again.

Thanks for sharing your test results. If you'd ask about blood tests for herpes, I would have advised against it. This is far too soon after your encounter for a reliable result and false positive tests are relatively common. The test results that you have suggest that you have HSV-1, the virus that causes virtually all cold sores. 60% of the population have HSV-1 although most of those folks do not know it.
There are no recommended tests for HPV and like HSV-1, most adults (about 80% of all adults) already have it. Also like HSV-1, even if there were a test, it is far too soon for a relatively recently acquired infection to show up.
Personally, your risk for syphilis is so low that I would not bother to test again. It is certainly reasonable for you to resume unprotected sex with your regular partner at this time. EWH
