[Question #11808] HIV Question

Dear Our Doctors,
I have made a protected sex with a 38 Vietnamise Girl in Dubai. To be honest her status is unknown. She gave me oral blow job with condom and we had protected viginal sex twice using durex extra safe condom (2 Different Condoms). I did not cum actually inside the condom but when i pulled out the first time. I saw that she cum first. However i don't think that the condom was broken because base looked fine after we finished both of us washed our selves and she looked like she care about the hygine as she washed herself infront of me and used a mouth wash.
On the second day, I found a canker sore in my mouth. Actually no other symptoms at all.
The only issue worrying me that i remember that she used Johnson baby oil on the Durex extra safe condom and i read on the internet that this can cause a condom break. But the condom did not pop or break. It happened to me once in the past that the condom broke but i felt that time. But i don't know if everytime condom break will i feel or hear a sound or not?
This exposure happened on Friday 9 August and the canker sorer started to show on Saturday.
No any other symptoms till now.
my question is
1- Shall i get tested for STD/HIV?
2- If the condom broke will I always feel and hear a sound it or should i notice on the condom it self when i pull out?
3- Is this considered a high risk exposure?
4- Is the canker sore 1-2 days after this intercourse could be related to any HIV / STD?
Sorry to bother you but I referred to the expert as there is a lot of misinformation on the internet so you are my best reference here and I feel parnoid.

Welcome to the Form. Thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment. This was a no risk encounter. HIV rates in Dubai are very, very low and condoms are highly effective for prevention of HIV and other STIs- congratulations on your practice of safe sex. You are correct that oil can weaken a condom but if the condom was not obviously broken, the condom did not break and you were protected. Condoms do not break every time that oil is used as a lubricant, just more often and when oil-based products are not used. In response to your specific questions:
1- Shall i get tested for STD/HIV?
Your encounter was virtually no risk and I am confident that you did not acquire HIV or any other STI from the exposure you describe. Many of our clients choose to test for the purpose of reassurance but I am confident that you were almost certainly not infected and would consider testing not necessary.
2- If the condom broke will I always feel and hear a sound it or should i notice on the condom it self when i pull out?
Correct- when condoms fail they break wide open leaving no doubt that they failed. You can be confident the your condom did not fail.
3- Is this considered a high risk exposure?
Np
4- Is the canker sore 1-2 days after this intercourse could be related to any HIV / STD?
No. Canker sores are not an STI. Further, your canker sore occurred too soon after your encounter to be due to the encounter. STI and HIV symptoms do not occur within a day of exposure
Sorry to bother you but I referred to the expert as there is a lot of misinformation on the internet so you are my best reference here and I feel parnoid.
No problem. We're here to help and agree you that the internet is full of misinformation.
I hope the information I have provided is helpful. EWH

Thank you for your answer, I am sorry for getting back once again.
Regarding the first canker sore I had it is healed. However, There is another canker sore in a different Area in my mouth appeared and It is bigger than first one.
Could this be related to anything or Am I just too sceptical about it?
Note: Till now there is no any other symptoms appeared
I am sorry for keeping asking the same questions.
Please excuse my worries and fears.

Canker sores are not STIs. If you have had canker sores like this before I would not worry. Further, if there was no deep "tongue" kissing, this is most likely unrelated to the encounter we discussed nearly two weeks ago.
I would not be worried. EWH

Thanks Dr Edward,
So I would like to use my last reply with some answers for education purpose.
1- To be honest it was deep french kiss but it was not that deep, There no any other symptoms so far other than the canker sores, Canker sores happened to me before this is not the first time but for sure you know that since it is one of the symptoms got worried. So in case of deep french kissing, which STD or HIV related?
2- Can this canker sores is due to stress?
3- Is HIV hard to be transmitted from Vietnamese girl ? She was on Visit Visa actually so she is not going through any medical tests here in the country.
4- For HIV ARS Symptoms, Does it only comes with one symptoms or have to multiple symptoms ? For example canker sores only could be indicator or should have to be followed with other symptoms and what are the symptoms that should be followed?
Noting that the first canker sore happend one day after the exposure then it healed after one week and the second one appeared after 2 weeks from exposure and now we 21 days has past after the exposure.
5- From Your perspective and experience, Which is the highest method that transmit HIV?
Note: I am not doubting any of your previous answers, But Since internet is very misleading I would like to be educated from the best.

1. Few STIs are acquired from deep kissing. There is limited evidence that gonorrhea is rarely transmitted through deep kissing. Canker sores are not an STI
2. Yes
3. HIV is rarely acquired from a single exposure. The average risk for acquistion of HIV from unprotected vaginal sex is less than 1 infection per 2000 encounter i.e. 99.9% of the time a person has unprotected sex with an HIV infected, untreated person, they do not get HIV
4. The HIV ARS is described as multiple symptoms which begin at a bout the same time. Classically these symptoms include severe sore throat, high fever and widespread muscle or joint aches.
5. The highest risk sexual activity for acquistion of HIV is receptive rectal intercourse. The lowest risk is oral sex
I hope this information is helpful. Closing the thread now. Take care. EWH
