[Question #11824] Indirect transmission

I took a shower and dried off my genitals I do have a small outbreak. I then put the dirty towel in the hamper so I did touch the lid to open it. About 20-30 mins later my mother in law opened the same hamper to put something in it…and then changed my daughters diaper. I don’t think she touched the towel but she did touch the lid. So I’m worried she could have gotten the virus on her fingers because she changed my daughters diaper. Do you think my daughter is at risk now for hsv?

I hear and understand your concern but I seriously do not believe that this is a risk to either your mother in law or your daughter.  The likelihood that you touched the lesion itself or even the area on the towel where the virus was location is very small as well as you then using that same area on your hand to touch the lid and then virus staying alive on the lid, much less having enough quantity of virus to get one someone's hand and then that hand touching several other things to get ready for a diaper change.  I would take this off your worry list.

I know I for sure rubbed the area dry! But I will try to not worry about it! And my mother in law helped her on her pull up not changed her diaper I wrote that wrong.  so I don’t think she touched her bottom or anything.

Sorry I also wanted to add that I take 500 mg once a day of Valtrex

But no I didn’t directly touch the lesion. Only through the towel when drying off. Sorry I didn’t read that properly

Those updates are all very helpful in confirming my opinion that this did not present a risk to your daughter.
