[Question #11825] Hydrosalpinx after mistreated infections

Hi! I'm a worried husband. Recently my wife was diagnosed with hydrosalpinx. She was dealing with recurring yeast infections for the past year. Went to her gynecologist and after an ultrasound and a pelvic exam, that was the diagnosis. She prescribed cefuroxima 500mg, Vaxiduo 100mg, ceftriaxona 1g (for 3 days - intramuscular) and fluconazole & tinidazole for me and her.
I'm worried because I got exposed more than 2 years ago via cunilingus (less than 5 minutes) and analingus (less than 30 seconds) and read in a lot of places that gonorrhea can be a cause of the hydrosalpinx. I tested negative for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis, Herpes, Syphilis and some other stuff via blood and urine test, however, anxiety is getting the best of me. Any insight is appreciated!

Welcome to the Forum. Thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment.  Hydrosalpinx is the medical term describing a fluid filled area of the fallopian tube, the tube that goes from the ovary to the uterus.  Hydrosalpinx occurs when the fallopian tube becomes blocked, most often due to scarring.  Scarring to cause hydrosalpinx has many possible causes including infections (STIs and other infections), scarring due to previous surgery or problems such as appendicitis, or endometriosis.  When hydrosalpinx occurs, it typically occurs long after an infection or other source of inflammation has occurred.  My sense is, that without knowing what is causing the problem, her doctor is treating both her and you with a number of antibiotics which would be effective against STIs as well as many other kinds of infection.  At this point there is probably no easy way to determine the cause of her hydrosalpinx.  You negative tests for STIs mentioned above suggest that your participation in cunnilingus and analingus two years ago is unlikely to be the cause   EWH---

The only thing we're sharing for treatment are the fluconazole & tinidazole, sorry I didn't make myself clear.. thanks for the quick reply!
She started facing lots of yeast infections after starting a toenail fungus treatment. The physician who prescribed the treatment told her the infections are a known side effect, unfortunately he told her after finishing.
The gynecologist told her that she was facing hydro because of mistreated or unfinished treatment for previous yeast infections. Thing about it is that when you read online, pretty much every place tells you that the hydro is due to an STD. Is this pure anxiety on my end?

Thanks for the additional information.  The internet is not your friend here.  As I mentioned above, there are many other things that can cause hydrosalpinx and there is no evidence that you’ve had an STI, much less infected your wife.  You’ll probably never know what has caused this problem but there’s no evidence it’s your fault.  Best to just move forward.  EWH---
