[Question #11933] Question #11871 follow up

Dear doctors thank you so much for your work. I am following up from question #11871, answered by Dr. Hook. Here's the timeline.
Aug 10- received unprotected oral and engaged in protected vaginal intercourse with an escort who I ordered online. She promised she was clean, gets monthly tests, and also takes Prep injection to avoid HIV. She did however let it slip that if she has a regular client who will pay her "a lot" she might do it without condom, but so far she hasn't done it. This obviously makes me worried what she isn't telling. I forgot about this encounter and decided to move on with my life.
Aug 24/25. Engaged in unprotected sex with my wife. Same night as I was falling asleep I started to feel really dry nose and throat.
Aug 26. Went to get tested. All STDs negative except oral herpes.
Aug 29. Symptoms get very bad. Mild headache, can't sleep at night, sore throat, and body feels sore as hell. Go to ER. Doctor tells me since I work at airport I might have caught COVID and didn't want to test for HIV but I insisted. Hiv negative, COVID negative , flu A positive.
Sep 9. Exactly 30 days after my encounter I did a full STD panel again, I'm awaiting results. The doctor told me that he doesn't want me to retest until December now because by December I should have more than 100% assurity.
My questions are;
1- if I am negative for HIV (all tests ab/ag), should I consider them conclusive? Would I need to retest again in December?
2- I live in DC area, and as of now the weather is chilly but how could have I caught flu in August? That doesn't sound right.
One more thing, today my child also came down with a strong fever, even though I had done everything to avoid contact with family..

Welcome back to the Forum.   I'l go straight to your follow-up questions related to your very low risk encounter that we discussed, building on the information I provided during our previous exchanges:

I am confident the results of your current tests will again be negative.  In our prior exchange I stated
"1.  A 4th generation test at 31 days will be more than 98% conclusive.  FYI, we have never seen someone who had a negative 4th generation test,at 28 days or beyond go on and turn positive.  It is very rare.

2.  A negative test at the time you have symptoms proves that the symptoms are not due to HIV."

Thus, regarding your current questions-
1.  See above.  I see no reason to re-test in December.
2.  I note that you work in the airport in the DC area.  Remember that influenza has now become a regular occurrence throughout the year.  The peak fly season in the Southern Hemisphere is the reverse of our flu season in North America.  It is quite possible that you have Influenza A  (p.s.  Good for your doctor for thinking of it !)

The fact that your child now has a similar illness is also consistent with the flu which is passed not only through the air but through hand-to-hand contact

I hope this information is helpful.  EWH

Hello Doc. I posted a reply but don't see it so I'm posting again.

Thank you so so much for your blunt but caring responses. All my STD came back negative. Lo and behold, all of a sudden I feel better from the flu as well! I know you say countless times of how you've never had one person turn HIV positive in these interactions, but anxiety made me wonder if I was the special one.
I'll move on now with my life and want to really thank you and your whole team again for this service.
