[Question #11934] Std worry

So about a month ago I was on here asking about a oral encounter both given and Received, last week was my 6th week since the encounter and I had gotten a syphilis and hiv test done both where negative the syphilis test was the rpr one, I also did a test at 16 days for hiv rna early detection along with chlymida gonoreah and trich all negative, since my 6th week test was negative for hiv and syphilis and i in the clear, do I need to test for other STDs? If so what one would you suggest. I am in a long term relationship that I regrettably went out side of and I would like to know if I am in the clear to have unprotected sex again I have noticed that under my penis head it looks a little red and shinny at time and then other times it’s not there it’s not itchy or irritated just messes with my mind, any kind of thoughts and reassurance would be greatly appreciated thank you

I will also note that I don’t really want to test for herpes as I have had two false positive confirmed by the herpes western blot provided by Terri warren

Welcome back. I have reviewed your recent discussion with Dr. Hook and agree with all he said, including the very low risk nature of the exposure described and that no further testing STI testing is needed. The "red and shiny" skin on the penis doesn't change that advice. My guess is that you're on the right track with your comments "just messes with my mind". That is, that your anxieties over the sexual event has led you to over react to a trivial symptom that doesn't mean anything, or perhaps even a normal variation in skin tone. Whatever the cause, well over 90% of genital skin problems are not STIs. Herpes is not even a remote consideration for this, and I certainly do not recommend re-testing for it, or for any other infection. If the problem continues or seems to be worsening, see a dermatologist.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

So just to clarify my 6 week negative test for hiv and syphilis is conclusive and there is no other std or any std that I need to worry about I can have unprotected sex with my current partner without feeling like I would give them something

Yes, those test results are conclusive -- and no other STD causes the sorts of symptoms you have described. I am confident you have nothing that could harm your partner.---
