[Question #11952] HIV Follow Up

Dr. Handsfield,

I apologize for the need to ask a new question each time I respond. I usually don’t reply within the allotted 28 days. However, I don’t mind paying each time as I am happy to donate to this site whenever I can!

It has now been 6 weeks since I took my last dose of Truvada, and I am going to take a 4th generation test. I understand this was a virtually no-risk exposure, but my anxiety is preventing me from sleeping, eating, and working. I just want to confirm that this 6-week test will be 100% conclusive and that I won’t need to retest. I need this to be over so I can move on with my life.

I also took an Oraquick test (using saliva) 38 days after stopping Truvada, and it was negative. I’m guessing it doesn’t mean much, but I’m seeking any reassurance I can get.

As always, thank you, and I hope this is the last time you hear from me.

Welcome back to the Forum.  On this occasion your follow up question was assigned to me.  I reviewed all three of your earlier questions regarding your earlier no risk exposure and have little to add.  Your next 4th generation test will be entirely conclusive.  I urge you to accept the negative results that I’m confident you will receive and move forward.  If you are unable to do so after your next negative test, there is no benefit to further testing.  Rather it will be time to seek professional assistance and addressing your anxiety.  I say this out of concern for you, nothing more.

Please don’t worry.  EWH
