[Question #11965] Hiv from giving oral sex to a man
11 months ago
|
Hello, I am asking this for peace of mind. Sorry if I sound repetitive from my previous questions. Tonight I went to a fetish bar. There I met a man, I asked him his status, he said negative. I gave him head for a minute or so. He did not cum, but there could have been pre cum. Rinsed my mouth after. My understanding is that if he did have hiv, this is so low risk as not be worth worrying about and testing for as I would not have caught hiv from this encounter. Is this correct? Thank you

Welcome back, but I'm sorry you again found it necessary. As has been discussed in your two previous threads, partners generally should be believed when they say they do not have HIV. And even if your partner had untreated HIV, the best estimate for the transmission risk for a single episode of performing fellatio is one chance in 10,000. That's equivalent to giving unprotected BJs on untreated, HIV infected men once daily or 27 years before transmission might be expected. And of course your risk is even lower, since it is very unlikely your partner is infected. That said, your risk of other STDs (oral gonorrhea, for example) is higher, although still low.
---
Accordingly, I agree you do not need testing for HIV or STDs, at least not from a medical/risk perspective. That said, many anxious persons are more reassured by negative test results than by professional opinion, no matter how expert. So feel free to get care and seek testing if you wish. (From a personal perspective, if somehow I were in your situation, I would be tested and would continue unprotected sex with my wife without worry.)
I hope these comments are helpful. Best wishes.
