[Question #11967] Are my symptoms possible HSV 1/2? Love final expert opinion.

8/7 massage involving male genital, perineal, and anal regions, mutual touching, no intercourse. 8/18 sore penis with red spot and swelling at the tip, some shrinkage. 8/19 PCP diagnosed mild balanitis, prescribed antifungal. Since then, irritation, nighttime itching slow urine flow, dull anal pain burning (worse with BM), and irritation during sex. 4 docs don’t think herpes. Symptoms ongoing for 5 weeks partially improving. Still have irritation, dull pain, and some anal burning. Tested twice for STDs (including herpes) at 3+ weeks and completed antibiotics and antiviral. Should I get more tests or take other steps? Could this be a herpes outbreak?

My questions does 4 + penis irritation, Anal burning, raw mild redness between legs and groin, weaker urine strength (still weaker at 4 week) some dull pain that is intermittent. penis corona is still inflamed penis is just different for the past 4 weeks. Also with ejaculation there is internal pressure not full on pain but irritation. I feel like my urethra is irritated at tip and inside. It’s hard to describe but it’s like my inside anal is inflamed as is urethra and some of exterior skin. But I have had hemorrhoids and jock itch so some of this could be combination of things. I’m just afraid to attribute to those causes and ignore something more serious.

Are these normal first herpes outbreaks symptoms?

Does HSV1 and 2 have similar initial outbreak symptoms in genitalia?

If this is first outbreak and pain was negligible would future outbreaks be less?

Today at week 4+ I feel like my lower back hurts and things are starting to ramp up again?

How often are sores inside even without intercourse of anytime in a first outbreak?

My first comments seemed to be cut off quickly so I added these questions. I will test but I am curious if this all sounds like heroes in your expert opinion?

The experience that you had does not represent a risk for the acquisition of herpes. Also your symptoms are not consistent with herpes.

All of your questions about the nature of a new infection with HSV don't apply here because your experience didn't put you at risk in any way, if your description was complete. I would strongly suggest that you not test because there are so many false positives on the herpes screening test that is routinely done. I'm glad that you were able to see clinicians in person to reassure you but now, add me to those who tell you that whatever is going on with your genitals, is not related to a new herpes acquisition from this experience.

Thank you for this service and your commitment to helping so many people. I am shocked at how little I knew about true risks of STI and how they are transmitted at my age. I felt like I was being relatively safe.

1-just to clarify the massage therapist penis was rubbed on my anus, perianla and my body - mine was touched via hand only predominantly.

2-there was one 2-3 second other incident of unprotected oral but it was so brief I didn’t mention in previous message (sorry)

3-would initial outbreak cause internal sores that one can not see by visible inspection? Initially I had first doc just look at penis so she did not closely inspect anal area. She felt like irritation was something else. Later docs inspected anal region yet found no evidence of lesions but there was some lag between anal area inspection by a few days.

4-does outbreak cause internal pressure at ejaculation if sores are internal I know I’m stretching at this point.

5-would first outbreak come with all these varied symptoms- anal burn, weird irritation of penis, sore spot, redness of scrotum and few other areas?

6-does outbreak cause penis and anal area to be sickly? That’s how would describe my penis and anal areas for 4 weeks.

7- with addition of above comments do I need to do anything more than I have done which is a lot?

8 Could this all be more likely fungal infection from gym and sauna? I work out a lot.

2-3 seconds of oral would not cause HSV

People can have no sores, internal sore or external sores with a new infecitonl

It could, but this experience did not put you at risk of herpes

Good afternoon - I hope this isn’t too repetitive! But I have a new fun symptom that is alarming.

Today is 30 days since onset of symptoms.

1-started with one red mark in fold of penis went away in 24 hours

2-dull penis pain

3-urethra irritation

4- penis irritation and it was shrunk best described as sick.

5- anal burning inside anal cavity not outside

6-mild redness in crease between skin of legs to groin

7-redness of scrotum

8- irritation and redness of penis shaft and head

9-during times especially in beginning groin felt hot/warm

10 first two days I had some itching at night but I thought this was from antifungal creams and powders

11/ mild pain with sex due to internal pressure or pain at ejaculation

12/today at ejaculation there was blood in semen on a scale of 1-5 5 being a ton I’d say 2-3

Much of the other symptoms seem to be improving urine flow - anal burn- irritation to the point only recently was I ready to even engage in any sexual activity’s. I had full a terry of sti tests but I know how unreliable heroes test is.

At this point with my myriad of symptoms would this point too herpes?

I would love to let go and move onward but the blood followed by Google search scared me again. Any thoughts and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

I hope it’s ok to add one more thing. At 30 days I feel like I am starting to get sick on top of the other symptoms. I feel run down, but if a tiny itchy throat and enlarged lymph nodes in my neck. I feel quite depressed about all this and am scared of infecting my spouse with this illness that increasingly feel is herpes.

I of course am suddenly also fearful of HIV from the rubbing against my anal region - I know it’s ridiculous I’ve had zero intercourse no giving oral and no sharing of anything that could be of any risk. That’s is correct I hope… good grief this stuff is stressful

Please ignore the HIV question I got yet another unneeded test it was clear. I also had internal surgeon check for sores or hemmroids today doc found no active sores or lesions inside anal cavity but said I had some discharge from a gland? Not sure what that means. Two smaller hemorrhoids but no signs of anything concerning. But I’m guessing anything earlier could have healed at this point.

Blood in semen is not unusual and almost always, does not predict any other problems. I'm glad you were able to check in a professional about your some of your concerns. but again, I really don't feel that your encounter presented a risk of an STI.
