Hello. I think I had a chlamydia infection for about 2 years. I was given 1g azithromycin, is that still effective if I had it for this long?

Welcome to our forum. Thank you for your questions and you’re implied confidence in our service. I’ll be happy to provide some information which I hope will be helpful to you.

Azithromycin is no longer the recommended therapy for chlamydia infection. Azithromycin as a single dose therapy cures about 90% of chlamydia infections while the cure rate with doxycycline, 100 mg twice daily for seven days, is significantly higher.

At the same time, your question is a bit unusual. How do you know that you’ve had chlamydia for two years? Have you been tested on multiple occasions? Have you been treated and found have positive cultures tests after treatment? If you’d like to provide more context perhaps I could provide more information. EWH.

That just my guess that’s when I was last tested so I think it was around 2 years. I was negative 2 years ago and tested positive recently. So I must have gotten it within that 2 year span. It could be less but I’m saying that’s the max amount of time I could have had it so I’m just using that as my example.
