[Question #12062] Std testing

Hello doctor.
M35y. I’m starting a new relationship, my partner(f) and I plan to test.
My last unprotected (heterosexual) sexual encounter, with an other woman, was 2 weekend ago. I don’t worry about HIV, but about other STD. 2 days after the relationship, following a dental abscess I was put on 7 days of doxy(200 in one go the first day, then 100*2 the remaining dans),i’m allergic to pénicilline.
I don’t worry about chlamydia, Doxy being the reference antibiotique, nor about gonorrhea having no symptoms for the latter.
But for syphilis, does the antibiotic possibly lead to a postponement of the deadline to 7 week than 6 to do a test?
Do you think there are other screenings to do?
Thank you

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment. The encounter you describe was low risk- most persons do not have STIs and even when they do, most single exposures do not lead to transmission of infection. As you suggest, the doxycycline you took assures you that you did not acquire chlamydia and the absence of symptoms likewise makes it more unlikely that you acquired gonorrhea. The 7 days of doxycycline you took also assures you that you will not develop syphilis. I see no reason for concern and no need for further testing at all. EWH---

Thank you for you feedback. Happy to learn that doxycycline is effective for syphilis.
Just one last technical question:
I ate a little piece of cheese 1 hour after the first dose of doxycycline. Do you think this could impair the absorption of doxycycline?

No, eating cheese soon after taking your first dose of doxycycline would not reduce its activity. I would not worry. EWH---

I would like to thank you.
We read your reply with my new gf, and are ok with that.
If I summarize:
Chlamydia: impossible
Syphilis : impossible
The two because of the seven days of doxy right after sex.
Gonorrhea: no symptoms, unlikely.
And for trich it’s very easily treatable, and for this reason we don’t see the necessity to test.
I wait for you last reply and want to thanking you again for your work. Very appreciated

Congratulations on discussing this decision with your partner, these sorts of open discussions will strengthen your relationship. I agree completely with your summary. I would not be concerned and would not feel the need to abstain from unprotected sex with your new partner if I were in your situation.
As you know, we provide up to 3 responses to each client's questions. As this is my 3rd response, the thread will be closed shortly without further responses. Take care. EWH
