[Question #12072] Handjob received from a massage parlor

Dear doctor,

I am a male, 42 years old. Three days ago I received a handjob from a Chinese massage parlor. There was no sex, nor vaginal neither oral. First I was on my belly, she cleaned my anus with a wet towel and caressed it, but didn't put her finger in. Then I received a short handjob, lasted couple of minutes. She used oil to do that. After it finished she cleaned my penis with a wet towel, but another one. I have not seen anything special on her hands. My question is what are the chances of getting any STI or skin infection from this encounter. I am worried, although I think chances are small. Thank you for your answer.

Welcome to our Forum.  Thanks for your questions.  I'll be glad to provide some information.

The WHO, the US CDC, and virtually all experts agree that receipt of masturbation does not put either partner at risk for any STIs, including HIV.  This is true even when one partner's genital secretions get onthe other.  This was a no risk encounter.  There is no reason for concern and no reason for testing related to this exposure.

I hope that this information is helpful.  EWH

Dear doctor,

Thank you for your quick answer, this is a very good news. I was thinking the same, but when I did some research on the internet, a number of websites are saying there are risks (body fluids what you already mentioned, skin rashes, HPV, herpes on hands). I don't want to question you because you are the expert, I am just curious why do they say it. It is really making me nervous.....again, I don't want to question you!

Unfortunately, the Internet is full of misinformation and misleading statements.  We spend much of our time working to correct misstatements made there.  The Internet is a great way to communicate but is an unreliable source of healthcare information.  EWH---
