[Question #12093] [Question #12077] Follow up

Sorry Doc, I forgot to ask questions I had the first time on the original post. I noticed you mentioned my encounter was "most if not all protected". About 1 minute of this encounter was unprotected in her anus. Does this at all change your view on the risk? You also mentioned the nature of my partner. Can you elaborate on that a little more? I have had sex with my wife twice since the encounter and am terrified I gave her something. I did a urethritis panel today which includes Ghon/Chlam/MGen/Trich/Ureaplasmas just for piece of mind. Can I safely assume those will be negative? Took Urine Culture again today came back negative for WBC and Leukocytes or anything else. Im hoping once I get these negative results my anxiety will calm down and these pains in the penis and weird sensations will go away. If you were in my shoes, would you have had sex already without worry? Still havent had any discharge either. Just the slight burn/discomfort when peeing sometimes and of course the weird urethra feeling on the tip or the pain when I press down on the tip.

Welcome back to our forum although I’m sorry you felt the need. On this occasion, I happen to be assigned your question and will be replying. Preparing to reply, I reviewed your earlier action interactions with Dr. Handsfield and agreed with all that he said. As a result, I have a little to add to his comments.
---
You appear to be reading between the lines and focusing on wording to raise unnecessary concerns. In science, there are no absolutes. Because of this, Dr. Handsfield and I both tend to use terms such as “virtually” and “most, if not entirely protected” to acknowledge that strange, unexplainable things that happen in extraordinarily rare situations. Having said that, given your test results, the test results of your partner and her relatively low risk status, you are worrying unnecessarily. Please don’t try to read between the lines. The exposure described was virtually no risk and you have gone on to prove that you were not infected through testing performed on both you and your partner.
For whatever reason, you are having trouble moving forward, despite the very, very low risk nature of your exposures and testing, which indicates that you are not infected. Further testing is a waste of time. I am confident those results will be negative, when they are, would hope that they will allow you to move forward without concern. EWH

Thank you for the response. Like many others in your forum, I too have these health scares. Since we test for regular STDs but no one ever mentions Mgen so I'm sure she has also never tested for it either. Is it unlikely someone of her age would have stds? I appreciate your words and that this is a low risk encounter due to the partner. I was more asking for my knowledge as well. What makes a person less riskier then others? I also read that MGen was one of the STIs that usually increases leukocytes in Urine test. Is this true? I don't mean to bother but I really also want to learn. I am not questioning your intelligence in any way. Dr H also mentioned it's mostly harmless. Is that for both sexes?

Mycoplasma genitalium is a less common STI then someone would have you believe. The characteristics of your partner that you describe do not suggest that she is likely to have this STI. At present the major STI central associated with MG is recurrent urethritis and men. This can present with the presence of white blood cells in the urine.
I remain confident that the test that you obtained for MG will be negative. I suggest you wait to use your final follow up until you have those results. Until then, I will have a little more to say EWH.

Hi Doctor, Sorry to be back already but I still havent received my test results. Quest mentioned to me they would be finalized on the 19th by midnight. Does a urethritis panel usually take this long? I mentioned to her what test I wanted done and she ordered the full panel which included ureaplasma even though I asked her not to. 9 days seems like a long time for a test to be done. The women is going to take a Urine test for Trich and Mgen and anal swab for Mgen tomorrow. I know I asked a few questions regarding my partner and wanting to know what makes her unlikely. Maybe I can add some details. She told me she has had 9 partners her entire life. She was then married for 6 years to someone who cheated on her with other women unprotected. Thats why she tested yearly but only for standard STDs. Never trich or mgen. Pap smears every 3 years which were never abnormal. She then later remarried and has only been with her husband. The last 2 years I have been her only partner once. Does this change her risk category? Also I have seen some information from Dr H on Mgen in the past and would like to know if that has changed. He mentioned at that time that MGen was only known to infect the penis and the cervix. Has that now changed to also include the rectum? Is it less likely to infect rectum if it does? Could anxiety really cause the Pelvic Floor muscles to tighten causing irritation/pain at the penis head and tip? I read something about the nerve group there causing those issues. Is Trich still something that is known to NOT infect the rectum? I know this may sound repetitive but it feels as though I still dont know what makes this encounter a very low risk encounter. Would women have shown symptoms if they had trich or mgen vaginally or anally? Also if you could please leave the thread open so that I could post the results. I would like for someone who is experiencing the same thing to be able to see this and get some hope.

Also forgot to ask in your 40 years experience, have you seen many single exposures lead to infections? I'll post results as soon as I get them.

This is another in your series of anxiety-driven, repetitive question. I said in my last response that I have little more to say until you get your test results. That remains the case.
As I have said previously, it is unusual for any single sexual encounter with a person of unknown status to lead to infection.
I will leave the thread open but there will be no further responses until you have test results. At that time, if your test is positive, I may have a comment, otherwise the thread will be closed.

Well Doctor, you were 100% correct as always. All results finally came back and all negative, even ureaplasmas. This has been the most stressful and anxiety filled week ever but im glad its over. Almost overnight my symptoms started to fade and I actually slept. Thank you both for your services and I hope to never have to post a question like this again. Hopefully. Thanks again Doctor Hook! Have a great weekend!

Thanks for sharing your test results. In addition to being reassuring for you, the information will be helpful to others who may read our exchange.
I'll be closing the thread now. Take care. EWH
