[Question #12151] Negative Test Still Have Symptoms

Unfortunately 8 days ago I received unprotected oral sex from a stripper. The following Tuesday, 6 days after I went to an urgent care to get tested for  gonorrhea and chlamydia. Both came back negative, still waiting for the uti results. Reason for the testing was a few days after I noticed slight burning during urination / after ejaculating via masturbation and some cloudy urine. Did I test too soon, and should I go back for a second round of testing? I understand from previous posts HIV is not a possibility, should I do a full panel of testing perhaps? I’m sure some anxiety’s are leading me to overthink this but some professional reassurance would be great!

Welcome to our forum. Thank you for your questions and your implied confidence in our service. As you already know, receipt of oral sex is a very, very low risk sexual exposure. Your negative tests go along way towards ruling out STI’s as a possible cause of your symptoms.  The symptoms you describe are the sorts of symptoms that we see quite commonly in persons who, following an exposure that they have regrets about, and are looking for any signs of it or symptoms of infection. In those situations folks tend to notice otherwise normal sensations, which would more typically be overlooked. Your gonorrhea and chlamydia test results are conclusive.

There is a slight possibility that, following receipt of oral sex you may be experiencing non-chlamydial NGU, a syndrome, which is the result of introduction of oral bacteria into the male urethra during oral sex. The syndrome can be diagnosed by demonstration of the presence of increased numbers of white blood cells in a urine specimen, or a swab taken from the penile urethra. If this is the problem, it does not represent a risk for your partners as it cannot be transmitted to others and does not put you at risk for complications. In Some persons who experience this syndrome a seven day course of doxycycline may help to resolve the symptoms, although most typically the symptoms go away on their own.

Not to worry too much about the symptoms you were experiencing. You have ruled out the most serious and important possible infections. EWH
