[Question #12162] Bump on scrotum after encounter
9 months ago
|
Hello doctors. I am a 41 year old white male. In early September I gave oral sex to a man, he did not ejaculate in my mouth. I then masturbated myself to completion.
3 weeks ago, I noticed a bump on my scrotum. It is fairly small, and located right in the center, on whatever the “seam” on the scrotum is called. It is firm but painless and colorless. I did go to urgent care, and after a very brief look the nurse practitioner said it was likely a pimple or ingrown hair. We did not discuss sexual activity.
I should mention I have no other noticeable symptoms. I do not see any spots or suspicious areas in my mouth, where the penetration occurred.
I’ve never had a pimple or ingrown hair last 3 weeks and I’ve been doing a lot of googling. (I know, that just causes anxiety.) Should I be concerned that this was a risky encounter?

I’d like to add the hand I masturbated myself with also touched his genitals.

Welcome to the Forum. Thanks for your question. I'm pleased to be able to assure you that the "bump" that you noticed on your scrotum is NOT related to the encounter you describe. STIs are local infections which occur at sires of contact during sexual activity. Thus, performance of oral sex on another person would lead to oral, not scrotal infection. Further, STIs are NOT transmitted from person to person through containation of hands or other body parts which then go on to contact the genitals
The scrotum is a portion of the genitals where bumps, cysts and other irregularities are common. Increased searching for abnormalities leads to noticing problems which have been present for some time and are not abnormal. I suspect this is what is going on. I have no concerns that the lesion you describe is related to the encounter you describe.
I see no reason for concern. EWH

Thank you for your response. With so much bad information online, you’ve helped set my mind at ease!
To further decrease my anxiety, what timeframe should I expect symptoms to manifest at the site? When can I stop examining my mouth multiple times a day?

I see no reason to continue examining your mouth. If signs of an infection we’re going to occur they would’ve done so by now. EWH.---

As a follow up to your initial answer. “STIs are local infections which occur at sires of contact during sexual activity.” Does this mean if I had contracted an STI in my mouth, there wouldn’t be a chance to spread via vaginal intercourse?
In all of the confusing and bad information I find online, I keep finding that many STIs have no symptoms and you should get tested no matter what. How valid is this advice? My encounter was a one-off occasion and I’m wondering if my anxiety was more the result of guilt than valid concern.

Correct. If you had an oral infection, you could not spread it through genital intercourse
You are correct that STIs can be asymptomatic however most people do not have STIs and most single exposures do not result in transmission of infection. Overall your risk for infection from the encounter is low, chances are certainly less than 1 or 2%.
As you know, we provide up to 3 responses to each client’s questions. This is my 3rd response. The thread will be closed shortly. EWH
