[Question #12173] Hsv1 possible transmission

Hi. Today I touched my lower lip (no current cold sore ) then washed my hands twice because I was going to change my toddler. She had something in her inner labia so I removed it. I have since been in my head because I’m worried I didn’t wash my hands enough and there could still be the virus on my fingers because I touched her mucous membranes. ( my ocd is making me nervous like the virus could be under my nails and the soap didn’t kill it )I also take daily Valtrex for these transmission fears. Do you think this is likely to infect her?

Also, Before I washed my hands I looked for something under my bed after I touched my mouth. So my hands were on the ground when I looked under the bed. I am now worried that I stepped on the same place my finger touched. And that virus could have gotten on my sock. I then walked down the stairs into the living room to change my daughters diaper. Do you think I could have gotten the virus on my finger again from my sock touching the carpet and me touching the carpet while kneeling down to change her? ( so from my finger to the floor to my sock to the floor again to my fingers again and then transfer while changing my daughter because I touched her vulnerable area while changing her) I had my first therapy appointment because of all of these fears last week. I’m hoping it will help me. Thank you :)

Britany, neither of these experiences present any risk whatsoever to your daughter. I promise. The soap and water was just fine to remove any virus that might have been on your hand, which is unlikely because you had no cold sore and were on suppression. The sock thing presents zero risk.
I'm so hoping your therapy appointments are helpful

I sadly woke up with a cold sore ( I may have had it last night I’m not sure because it’s small) but I’m nervous because I wiped my daughters bottom last night when she went potty and I talked to her so I’m worried that small particles of spit cold have flown around and landed on the toilet paper or something. Can it transfer like this? I’m sad because I just started taking 2 500 mg of Valtrex daily and this stupid thing pops up. Also yesterday I was taking a nap and my blanket touched mouth when and then a few mins later my toddler came and snuggled with the same blanket. So pretty much I’m in my head about a lot of stuff I did yesterday because this cold sore popped up. Can it transfer easily by me talking while getting her pull up changed or by wiping her bottom?

Also does having a cold sore now change any of the above questions?

Sorry to add more.my daughter touched the side of my mouth earlier before I knew I had a cold sore. Then she touched her belly like 10 mins later. Or I’m worried i touched my mouth and then touched her dress. Could it make her dress infectious? Thanks for answering my questions. It’s been a rough day if you can tell.

Another situation sorry… I was talking to my toddler over my shoulder right before she got on the toilet. I was helping her on and she touched my shirt where I had just talked over my shoulder so I’m worried the virus might have been on my shirt and she touched it. She then touched her bottom area when she was going potty. My mouth didn’t touch the shirt that I know of I’m just worried that saliva may have come out when I was talking.

None of these experiences present a risk to infect your children. Clothing is not infectious.
