Hi Dr.
Seen at walk in clinic 10/29 owned by hospital my pcp works at. Told them I was waiting for result from 10/28 that hadn’t come back yet, they gave me another 4th gen blood test so results could be seen by my pcp when they come through. Timeline:
9-17 unprotected sex with lady idk and she claims she’s hiv negative but ghosted me and wouldn’t send screenshot of the test.
10/23 - 35 days after negative 4th gen blood test
10/28-40 days after negative 4th gen blood test
10-29-  4th gen blood test from walk in clinic still waiting results

How likely is it my test on 10/29 will be negative since on 10/23 and 10/28 is negative? Are these conclusive? I have telehealth with pcp today but walk in clinic said retest at 3 and 6 months.

I'm sorry you're back so soon, particularly for these questions. The answers are very clear from looking at other threads on this forum, or from many online resources (and cost free!).

As we discussed last time, you were at very low risk of HIV. The AgAb test is nearly conclusive (99%) 4 weeks after the last possible exposure, so your negative results 10/23 and 10/28 are nearly total proof you were not infected. Your 10/29 result also will be negative. You have received mistaken advice about testing at 3 and 6 months. All HIV experts agree there is never a need to test beyond 45 days.

Hi Dr,

What made/makes me suspicious/nervous was she refused/ didn’t respond when I asked proof of a negative hiv test, but she sent a negative Chlamydia test. Also, you were right..the 4th gen blood test on 10/29 was non reactive (41 days post exposure). My pcp said he doesn’t see any reason to retest anymore, but if I wanted he would put an order in for in a few weeks. Do you see any reason I should test at/after 45 days for conclusive results or should I stop being anxious and move on and forget it ?
I appreciate your insight and patience.

Your test results are conclusive. Therefore, whether or not your partner has HIV no longer matters. You could have told me you mainlined HIV infected blood and I would still tell you to rely on your test result. You do not have HIV. (Although 45 days is the stated conclusive time, there are few if any cases ever reported in which a negative result at 40 days turned out to be false. But feel free to have a final test at 45 days if it will help you move on without worry.)---
