[Question #12183] Hiv concern
|
Dear Doctors,
On 28/6/22 I had a high risk exposure. After 17 days I had an rna-pcr test which came back negative. In the following 19 months i had 5 more 4th gen HIV tests. All 5 were negative. In this period of time (19months) I consumed 5 capsules of biotin 20mg. I can't remember if it was just before any of these tests. Is there any interference with biotin and the tests. In the extreme scenario i took a capsule before all these tests is it possible there can be an error? I read biotin interferes with p24. Is it possible that I have had a false negative test?

Welcome back to the Forum. Thanks for your confidence in our service. This question is essentially the same as questions that you asked of Dr. Handsfield 7 months ago. The answers have not changed and will not change. Your HIV RNA PCR test, as well as your multiple 4th generation tests are PROVE that you did not acquire HIV from the encounter you describe. The biotin you took would not change your results. You need to accept that you do not have HIV. There is no need for further testing. EWH---

Thank you!Does any kind vitamin in general interfere with this test; vitamin d, other medications ? Finally, as I had thyroid cancer and had to take radioactive iodine in 2017 is there any chance of any interference with the results? I also have an active cancerous nodule on my neck which can't be removed and it is under surveillance. Can this interfere with the tests? This will be my last question.
Thank you!

Very high dose of biotin can sometimes interfere with the tests but this is rare. Other vitamins have no effect. Once again, I urge you to believe your test results.
The radioactive iodine taken 7 years ago would not effect the accuracy of your tests. No does an active nodule in your neck
