[Question #12211] Herpes?

Hello Doc so I have 3 encounters I did last Month, I am going to either stop or use condoms even for Oral. I can’t take this paranoia after encounters anymore, even with Condom use Everytime for Protected sex. I will try to make it brief. I had 3 encounters all were with trans/‘males an encounter (10/1) which involved both of us giving each other oral, and rubbing of genitals, no penetration of anything else. Another encounter 13 days ago on (10/24) which involved me only receiving oral sex and cumming in the persons mouth. And third encounter 10 days ago on (10/27) that involved both giving each other oral, we made out, and protected anal sex, I was the top. I have been dealing with candida balanitis, which I am now on day 4 of treatment. I have not been too worried, until yesterday (13 and 10 days after past two encounters) Yesterday I started feeling a bit on burning urination. I would say about 5,6 times I went. It wasn’t super horrible, but definitely some slight burning.

Have not felt it in the past 24 hours. Also later on in the day, I started feeling almost like a tingling or crawling type of feeling on my genitals, didn’t last too long , but I did feel it a bit. And around my anus it feels a little weird too, almost like a tingling, felt it yesterday, and a bit now. And today I seem to have some genital itching around my genitals, and slightly on my shaft as well. The symptom that has also freaked me out is that yesterday, I gad this twitching around my knee, or maybe slightly above or slightly to the right of it. The twitching lasted about 6 hours, kinda came and went, but the twitching was intense enough you could literally see it. Also had a sore back, and still have it a bit sore today. Now I feel like I have had some slight twitching on my buttock.

I 1) i am freaking out about herpes, what are the chances this has caused herpes , and if so would it be hsv1 or two? 2) will the candida make it more likely for me to have acquired herpes this way?3) am I dealing with predome, if not can you explain how exactly it feels or is 4) what are the chances of hiv or other stds with these encounters and risks.

I am not concerned about the twitching, while people think that is a symptom of herpes, I do not.

When someone gets herpes from receiving oral sex, it is almost always HSV 1, not HSV 2. Have you ever in your whole life had a cold sore on your lip or in your nose? If yes, then you already have HSV 1 and would be highly unlikely to get it in a new location on your body (i.e. genitals).

The genital to genital rubbing presents some risk for HSV 2 acquisition if your partner(s) had HSV 2.

The condoms were a great idea for anal sex, good job.

I think your behaviors present some risk for HSV, very little if any risk for HIV, and some small risk of getting other STI's like gonorrhea and chlamydia in your throat from giving oral sex. It would be easy to get tested for those in throat.

This could be prodrome, but probably not. Just observe for any small groups of blisters on your penis and if you get any, have them swab tested right away.

Hello and thanks for the quick response. The final time I had a igg test for both hsv1 and 2 they came out negative. And I had them both in a 6 month period. But that was about 5.6 years ago. And once I made out with a girl, and about a week or two later . I saw something that kinda looked like it. And have never seen it since, and have never had an igg test since I saw it. 1)Could that have been hsv1?

1) the genital to genital contact was the one on october 1st ( about 35 days when I noticed these symptoms) do you think that would be too late to start developing these symptoms? And maybe I am safe from that encounter? I thInk I have seen Dr Handsfield and hook say if you don’t develop them by 2,3 any symptoms or blisters you are most probably fine, ehat is your take? Or could it have taken 35 days? 3)sorry I am a little confused you say, it could be prodome but probably not can you elaborate a bit? 4) could I have received hsv2 from the only oral encounters or only hsv1 if I didnt have it previously? 5) it’s been two days since the symptoms and still don’t see any sort of lesions/ blisters, shoul I have seen them by now? Or can it still take some time?6) I am feeling a sore throat coming as well, and I think a bit of sneezing, could this also be part of the predome??

Hello Terri sorry for bothering before your response, I just don’t think I can keep waiting another day or two before I mention my more worries. I ended up looking up prodome symptoms I used to vastly remember it from the past, but have tried not to look it up more, because of my anxiety. And it said online for 2 hours up to 2 days , that you will feel predome symptoms, before blisters appear, bur says that you can have the symptoms and they never apprear. Now I am freaking out even more, continuation of questions 7) how likely is it for me to have the prodome symptoms with and not develop blisters, is that usually the case. It’s goinf on 3, 3 1/2 days of the symptoms, shouldn’t I have developed the blisters by now? 8) today I also have had pain on my lower foot, and when i use the bathroom it burns. I heard herpes can cause that? Why would that be, if i didnt get penetrated or get eaten out in anus? I have had hemmorhoid before,and it feels the same, but my job is physical,and i walk alot and wear heavy steal toes, do these symptoms sound more herpetic, or pure coincidence?

9) if that one time Ihad what seemed like a hav1 on my lips was indeed that. Do you think it is less likely I got hsv 1 from both the oral encounters?

10) can i have gotten hsv2 from the oral encounters if so how?

11)How exactly do the sores and blisters appear. I have yet to see anything

12 ) if you put a percentage apart from the penis skin to skin contact, how likely could it be I got herpes. Hiw much percentage of hsv1 or 2 do you actually beleive happens from just unprotected oral. Sorry for the bother just freaking out, herpes is just such a confusing std, and looking up more symptoms was not a good idea.

13) prodome says it causes knee pain as well, I don’t believe I had knee pain, but you stated you din’t think herpes has to do with twitching. My knee twitching 3 days ago, for a period of 7 hours a good amount, I even saw it moving, you think has nothing to do with herpes? Or the possible lower back pain?

14) could anal itching be herpes? Or maybe I have just been using the bathroom too much today? I have had upset stomach, and have gone like 5 times today,could that be due to prodome?

15) forgot to metion I have some itching around nose area for 2,3 days , could that be hsv 1 or 2? No blisters yet

I think 35 days from an encounter is too long to represent a new infection from this encounter.

Sneezing and sore throats are not signs of herpes.

If you've had cold sores on your lip in the past, I would be astonished if now you acquired this genitally, so prodrome really doesn't fit here.

I have never seen anyone acquire HSV 2 from oral sex in 40 years of practice. I believe you are only at risk of HSV 1 if you've not had it before, which you now say you think you have.

They would show up on the shaft of the penis as sores or water blisters

I think you've already had HSV 1 and you don't get HSV 2 from oral sex so I would say the risk is incredibly small. I don't give percentages

I've never seen prodrome as knee pain

Nope. New herpes causes constipation in some people, not frequent pooping

I think we are looking for genital symptoms, not oral ones.
