[Question #12216] Relative Monocytosis & Mild Absolute Neutropenia

A girl gave me a blow job. I have no symptoms, however I was doing some general tests including a complete blood picture and the monocytes was 13% (reference range is 1-10) and the test read: relative monocytosis and mild absolute neutropenia. Does this mean I might have an STI?
The rest of the tests which are microbiology, immunology and chemistry units were fine.

Welcome to our forum. Thank you for your questions. I’ll be glad to comment.

The presence of monocytosis on a blood test is a nonspecific finding that does not guide you in terms of what may be causing it. Receipt of oral sex is a very low risk exposure in terms of risk for STI’s and no one has ever acquired HIV from receiving oral sex. if you are asymptomatic, my recommendation would be to wait a few days or a week and repeat the test unless there are specific symptoms or signs which might guide you to determining the source of your slightly elevated monocyte count. I would not be worried about STI‘s unless symptoms are present.  EWH

Thankfully I don’t have any symptoms. Does your suggestion to repeat the tests after a week suggest that I might have STIs or are you suggesting to repeat the tests to find out what is the reason for the slight monocyte count? What test would you reccomend to eliminate STIs

There is no reason that you think that you have an STI. My suggestion to repeat the test in a week is simply to verify that it is still elevated before you work with your doctor to determine why that is the case. I am confident that you are elevated monocyte count is not related to the encounter you describe above. EWH.---

5 days ago a rash appeared in my groin and very close to my testicles & both sides are itching. No blisters appeared. Could this be and STI or related to the encounter? I did the following test: HCV Antibody 3rd Generation, HBs Antigen, HBc Antibodies Total, HBc Antibodies IgM which are all negative. I also tested for HSV -1 IgG (result was 0.93 and less than 9 is negative in the ref range), HSV - 1 IgM, HSV -2 1gG, HSV- 2 IgM and HIV 1 & 2 antibodies which are all negative. My wife who isn’t the girl mentioned in my original question has a bacterial infection in her vagina, is this related? Also I just came back from pilgrimage where we walk a lot without wearing underwear.

The rash you describe does not suggest any STI. What you describe may be a fungal skin infection, which would be unrelated to the encounter you’ve described, but could be related to chaffing related to your recent extensive walking.

We provide up to three responses to each clients question. This is my third response. For that reason this thread will be closed shortly without further responses. I suggest you do your best to no longer worry about an STI from the encounter you described and move forward. EWH.
