[Question #12239] My odds?

Hello doctors, appreciate this service. I had condom protected sex with a CSW, pretty sure no rips or tears, but it did slide down the shaft about halfway down. 6 days later, started experiencing intermittent hot flashes, usually in the afternoons, that would come and go. Never had a fever, rash etc. This lasted almost 5 weeks. I did have Covid the week before my contact with the CSW, fever, sore throat muscle aches. Now 4 months later, experiencing strange sensations in my hands and face. Not numb and not exactly tingling, just odd. I always though HIV related neuropathy was a late-stage HIV condition, now I am not sure. Any advice is appreciated

Welcome to the Forum.  Thanks for your questions and congratulations on your safe sex practices.  Condom use virtually eliminates any risk for STI, even if the condom slips down the shaft of the penis.  As long as the tip of the penis is covered, you are protected.

The sensations you describe do not suggest HIV or any other STI.  you are correct that HIV-related neuropathy is a late complication of untreated infection which occurs years after acquistion of infection.  I am confident that you do not have HIV or HIV neuropathy related to the encounter you describe.  I see no need for testing although some of our clients do appreciate the added confidence that follows a negative test.  Should you choose to test, I'm confident that your test will prove that you were not infected ( HIV testing at this time would be absolutely conclusive)

I hope these comments are helpful.  EWH

Much appreciated doctor. The hot flashes aren’t a concern, and neuropathy would be very unlikely after only 4 months

Thank you doctor. Probably will get tested to be safe. Cardinal sin, online research I found that neuropathy can occur at seroconversion because of the viral load. Your comments have helped me immensely

Hello again doctor. You were right. HIV 1/2 4th generation results were non-reactive. 4 months after potential exposure. I realize that this is 100% conclusive and I apologize if my last message appeared that I was questioning your opinion. Thank you so very much
