29 y/o Caucasian female who had two separate instances of unprotected sex with white heterosexual males in 2022. No symptoms in the following weeks of those encounters. In April 2024 symptoms of dizziness and tingling/burning/bruised feeling on external mons pubis. No sores No UTI. negative for chlamydia/gonn. Shooting pain in groin…all resolved. Nov 2024 swollen neck lymph nodes and armpit pain. From August- October on and off nausea and LOA with anxiety. Getting tested for HIV. How high is my risk?

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions. I happened to be on the Forum when when your question arrived so you are getting a response far more quickly than is typical although we always provide replies within 24 hours of questions. I'll be glad to comment.
Your risk for HIV from the 2022 encounter you describe is virtually zero. If these exposures took place in North America or Western Europe, fewer than 1% of heterosexual men have HIV and even if one did, transmission or HIV from persons with untreated HIV infected persons is less than 1 in1000 (i.e. changes are more than 99.9% that you would not become infected) following a single exposure. Further your April symptoms are not suggesting of HIV (or any other STI) and your swollen lymph nodes are non-specific. I would not be worried about HIV. Testing at this time will provide entirely conclusive and reliable results and I am confident will show that you do not have HIV.

Thanks for your knowledge Dr.Hook my test is scheduled for tomorrow…I’m extremely anxious what I forgot to mention in my earlier post is that I have what appear to be clear bumps running along the inside border of my upper lip- I have lip filler my injector states it’s migration that needs to be dissolved. But it appeared a month ago and I haven’t gotten filler in over a year…concerned my lymph system is blocked from hiv. Also my period has also been shorter than usual since April as well. What do you think do I have cause to stress before this test?

I suspect that stress and resulting increased awareness has contributed to your shortened period as well as noticing the bumps you mention. I remain confident that your test will show that you were not infected. Please share your results when you get them
