I'm sorry to write to you again about the same topic, but I still have these symptoms after more than 3 months: My throat is even more red and irritated, my mouth is extremely dry despite drinking lots of water, and I am getting sores that look like cuts on the roof of my mouth and small canker sores on my tongue. I also got a rash on the palm of my hands and my body hurts.
Do you think there is any possibility that I have HIV and it has not been identified in any of my tests?
I also have a doubt regarding the sensitivity of my proviral DNA PCR test, which has a sensitivity of 129 cells/ml of blood. If a person has the infection, do you know approximately how many cells per ml of blood of proviral DNA would they have? (not copies like the RNA test).
I am writing to you again because in addition to presenting the symptoms that I mentioned recently, I got back with my ex-girlfriend and I wanted to know if it seems safe for you to have unprotected sexual relations with her, or if you think I should test again further ahead. I am nervous and do not want to infect her if I am HIV positive.
I await your response. Thank you very much in advance.

From my first reply to your initial questions 4 weeks ago:  "It is not possible to have HIV symptoms and test negative. Every kind of HIV test that exists is ALWAYS positive if someone's symptoms are due to HIV."

From my last reply in that first thread:  "HIV test results always overrule symptoms and yet another negative result again proves HIV isn't the cause of these or any other symptoms you may have in the future." (Bold emphasis added.)

From your next thread, Dr. Hook's comments:  "Your symptoms could not have been caused by HIV; and your test results prove with certainty you do not have HIV" and "I remain confident that your [additional] test will show you that you were not infected."

Dr, Hook also advised that HIV2 was covered by your results. And you not only have had the negative proviral DNA PCR test, but all those other tests. And what about the repeated advice you were not at risk for HIV anyway? Did you really believe you might be the first person in the world known to have caught HIV by oral to penile contact?

Did you not understand all those replies? Or just not believe us?

As for your current symptoms, they do not fit with HIV anyway; and it is proved you do not have it. You cannot infect your girlfriend and do not need to use safe sex with her. It is time to ignore your symptoms -- or if they continue and you remain concerned, see a doctor to figure out the cause and possible treatment. (As you and I discussed in your first thread, your symptoms are typical for anxiety making you more aware of minor symptoms or even normal body sensations that you otherwise would ignore or not even notice. But discuss with your doctor; they might respond to counseling or to anti-anxiety medication.)

Please do your best to move on without further worry. And for goodness' sake stop searching the internet about all this!

I do believe you, but it's hard not to pay attention to the symptoms when they continue to get worse. Today I woke up with swollen glands in my neck, and it all started from this exposure.
Regarding exposure, I performed oral sex on him, and even though it is difficult, there have been cases of HIV transmission this way.
Could you please answer my question regarding the DNA PCR test? That would calm my nervousness.
Anyway, I'm going to take one last test on Saturday and if it's negative I'm going to leave all this behind, regardless of the symptoms I present.
Sorry for my insistence and thank you for your response

The DNA PCR test is always positive when people have symptoms of HIV, with detectable levels in the tens of thousands or higher. There is no such thing as being infected and having HIV levels in the blood below the detection threshold. And as I already said, you also have all the other tests.

Self assessment of enlarged lymph nodes is notoriously unreliable. If that has been confirmed by a physician, follow her advice about tests to learn the cause and treatment.

It was confirmed by my ENT doctor that I have a slightly swollen lymph node in the right submandibular region, right where it hurts when swallowing. I still have the same symptoms of a very sore throat and dry mouth, with a little dry cough.
Something that may be important is that my right tonsil is slightly swollen and yellowish-white liquid comes out frequently.
They are going to send me for a neck MRI to see what it could be.
With all these symptoms that haven't gone away for months, do you think there is any slight chance that it could be HIV? Do you think I should get tested again later just in case? I know I had a lot of tests done but all of this happened after the exposure and instead of going away it continues to get worse. I'm really worried.
I know the thread ends here, so I appreciate your time and your answers, I'm very scared but I hope everything turns out well

While I'm of course not happy to hear your abnormal lymph node has been confirmed, it's good you're in competent hands and an MRi is planned. Single enlarged nodes usually turn out not to be serious. In any case, be assured that HIV isn't the cause; If you remain concerned or unconvinced, please go back and re-read this thread and the two previous ones. Thanks for the thanks; I'm glad the discussion has been helpful.

Please note that repeated questions on the same topic are not permitted; excessive ones may be deleted without reply and withour refund of the posting fee. This policy is based on compassion, not criticism; experience shows that repeated answers tend to prolong anxiety rather than relieving it-- there's so often a "yes but" or "could I be the exception" sort of question. And ASHA, the forum sponsor, does not wish to collect fees for questions with obvious answers. Finally, such questions have limited educational value for other users, one of the forum's goals. Thank you for your understanding. Best wishes and stay safe. Happy holidays!
