[Question #12289] HSV2 and donating sperm
8 months ago
|
Hello Experts,
Can someone who is HSV2-positive safely donate "fresh" semen/sperm (i.e. without any interventions from a fertility clinic) to someone looking to have a baby? If not, can it be done safely via a clinic?
Thanks!

There have been documented cases of someone acquiring HSV 2 from sperm donation. I think it is highly unlikely but the risk is not zero. If this is something desirable, I would advise taking high doses of antivirals for the week prior to the donation to reduce the risk as much as possible.
