[Question #12343] Oral

No sense hashing the why and why not. I thought I was over this. Older guy hooking up with other mostly married  older guys for oral sex NO penetration sex. 3 weeks ago Gave a guy a BJ asked his status got a confused  look and asked if he was safe answer was yes. He came in my mouth which I did.t want. I went to the rest room and rinsed my mouth
That was 3 weeks ago. Four days ago gave a BJ to another old guy for about one minute. Now 4 days later I have a fever 100 and one episode of loose bowels. What bother me is I got my flu shot and covid shot a few months back so I am wondering what's going on. I am almost never sick so this is worrying me.
I also have just about put this lifestyle away but as I'm sure you know, sex is a powerful force.

Welcome back to the Forum.  As you have heard on prior posts, this sort of exposure is quite low risk.  Five months ago Dr. Handsfield replied " Oral sex is inherently low risk for all STDs and zero risk for some -- which I'm pretty sure has been discussed in at least one of your many previous threads. The main risks are for gonorrhea, nongonococcal urethritis due to normal oral bacteria, herpes due to HSV1 (but at your age you likely have had HSV1 and are immune), and syphilis if your partners remain mostly males. If you'd like to lower your risk still further.... But either way, I would also advise you to stop obsessing over trivial symptoms. And rather than seeking STI/HIV testing after every event, just plan on a routine tests (urine for gonorrhea/chlamydia, and blood tests for syphilis and HIV -- AND NOTHING ELSE) after every several exposures."  That recommendation still holds.  The symptoms you describe do not suggest any particular STI.  Certainly illnesses like influenza and COVID might cause such symptoms but so could numerous other common , community acquired viruses.

This was a low risk encounter.  Testing, of course, is a personal decision.  EWH

One last post: I thought the oral gonorrhea was a blood test.  Also I can't understand why testing isn't totally anonymous
The most stressful part for married men is the destruction of his family. Maybe they will have a pill to knock down the sex drive. Thanks for all you do hope this is simply another scare for me. sorry for the caps.

Most oral STIs are symptomatic.  A productive cough is not a sign of recently acquired HIV.

Gonorrhea infections are not detected by a blood test but by a swab (for oral and rectal infections) or a urine test for penile infections. Results are conclusive any time more than3 days following an exposure.  Blood tests are used for diagnosis of HIV and syphilis and are not conclusive until 6 weeks following exposure.

You have one follow up remaining.  EWH
