[Question #12384] gonorrhoea from my kissing incident

Dr. Hook,
By accident, I purchased two questions because the page didnt load!
1. Anyway, my question is, now I read even here a reply by Dr. Hansfield to question #12377, that gonorrhoea may be transmitted via kissing (in my case somewhat deep kissng severla times with a mouth sore in me). Could my symptoms be from gonorrhoea from kissing? It gives flu like symptoms and sore throat and body aches, which I still have. I am negative for Epstein bar Virus, but have IgG high for it.
2 Also can gonorrhoea explain how I got pain in my urethra suddenly days after kissing?
The woman I kissed had been sexually active, and she had gotten even genital herpes, because of which I said I could not see her any more after the first date. She said she got tested days after we kissed for everything. Somehow I dont trust her.
3. I never knew that kissing someone was such a dangerous thing. thank you so much

This is of course follow up to my previous question about kissing and risk of HIV. As you know after 24 days, I tested with a lab 4th generation duo and Negative. I have no idea if this from throat gonorrhoea.

Welcome back to the Forum although I'm sorry you felt the need. Your prior set of questions was closed because you had received 3 responses. I'm sorry that you continue to worry about the encounter you described. As you know, you have proven that you did not acquired HIV. In addition, kissing would not explain your flu-like symptoms nor the urethral discomfort that you describe. Gonorrhea is a local infection- it you had acquired gonorrhea the infection would be localized to your throat and would not affect other parts of the body. In addition, most oral gonorrhea is asymptomatic and detected only by testing. If your anxiety leads you to feel the need for testing, you could get a throat swab for gonorrhea testing. If you do, I anticipate that it will show that you were not infected. Thus, in reply to your questions:
1. see above. Gonorrhea acquired from deep kissing would not explain your symptoms
2. No, as I said above, kissing would not lead to urethral discomfort. Why do you think your partner would lie? Most people tell the truth.
3. Kissing is very, very low risk. I would not let your concerns or fear of rare kissing related infections keep you from kissing others in the future.
Please don't worry. As I mentioned, if you remain concerned, you gen get a throat swab for gonorrhea. I am confident it will be negative. EWH

Dear Dr. Hook,
thank you so much for the reply, and thank you for your kindness and expertise.
So does that mean gonorrhoea does not give flue like symptoms? It is included in some of the symptoms, is that not the case? Throat gonorrhoea not give flue like symptoms?
I am so disappointed in myself for kissing this person the first date for someone who is so careful and hasnt had sex for the last 12 years.

Gonorrhea would not cause flu-like symptoms, nor would it cause your urethral discomfort unless you had a urethral exposure which might lead to infection. Throat gonorrhea DOES NOT cause throat symptoms in most people with the infection. As I said earlier, if you wish to prove you do not have gonorrhea from kissing, then prove it to yourself by testing. EWH---

I went to my doctor yesterday, and she also thinks gonorrhoea is not a possibility from kissing.
But again I did a test for HIV with a lab 4th generation duo test after 49 days, and it is NEGATIVE!
Og, my god, I thought i had gotten something from kissing. You were right doctor!
My doctors also suspect that this must be Epsstein Bar virus or Cytomenglovirus.
Thank you for youe help.

Thanks for sharing your results. I remain confident that you did not acquire gonorrhea, HIV, or any other STI from the exposure you describe. Your results prove you did not get HIV. It’s time to move forward.
This thread will now be closed. Take care. EWH
