[Question #12402] STD questions

Hello,
I am a male and About 3-4 weeks ago I stupidly went to a glory hole and received protected oral from another male for a few minutes. I used the condom for the entire event and ended up finishing my self off. For the last week or so I have had this dry spot near the head of my penis. It seemed rough at first but when I appt lotion it goes away but eventually kind of comes back. It’s not super noticeable not painful or itchy. It just looks like dry flaky skin. My questions:

1) is there any std that shows up as just dry skin with the absence of a blister or chancre sore? My worry is hsv and syphilis.

2) if this was an STI would some sort of blister or sore appeared by now since I have been having this dry patch for about a week on and off?

3) do you think I would be able to safely sleep with my significant other?

4) I have also received massages from other males but from reading previous questions hand to genital contact does not carry any STI risk. Is that accurate?

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question and your confidence in our services.

Despite all you may have come to believe (from online searching?), insertive oral sex is quite safe -- not entirely risk free, but a lot lower chance than with anal or vagial sex. And with a condom, there was absolutely zero risk for any infection; I see no need for testing for anything. To your numbered questions:

1,2) No STD causes the kind of skin problem you describe. Indeed, any STD on your penile skin would show up as a blister or sore. Probably you're just noticing a minor skin change that has nothing to do with this sexual experience. If it continues or you remain concerned, see a doctor, ideally a dermatologist or urologist. But for sure this is no STD or other infection from your glory hole adventure.

3) Yes you can safely have unprotected sex with your regular partner.

4) You also correctly understand that hand-genital contact is risk free, even if genital fluids are used for lubrication.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Hi Dr,
Thank you for your reply. I will just continue to use some lotion on it. It does not bother me at all and there is no obvious sore or blister. I was just worried about my prior encounter. I appreciate you answering all of my questions.

Best

Hello Dr,

I had some quick clarifying questions:
It’s now been 3 weeks and the dry skin has turned very subtly red and dry. However, it is almost unnoticeable most times after moisturizing. My questions:
1) at 3 weeks with absence of any sores or blisters would you say this is not an std?

2) I had a virtual appt with a dr who thought it did not sound like an std. they offered std screening but said I did not need to. I declined, do you think that was the right decision?

3) is there any other kind of skin related rash other than a obvious blister or sore that could be an std? What I have is not very noticeable but I keep looking for it so maybe it’s just something normal that I am now just seeing.

1) It was already apparent the dry spot was not an STD and not related to your glory hole exposure.
2) I agree with your decision that there was no need for STD testing.
3) There are too many possible causes of genital skin rash for me to judge the cause. (I have a book called Genital Dermatology Atlas. As the title implies, it is filled with photos of genital skin problems. Of its 300 total pages, all STDs are covered in only 15 pages.) If the spot continues and you remain concerned, you should see a dermatologist or urologist in person for reassurance.

That concludes this thread. I hope it's been helpful. Best wishes and stay safe.
