[Question #12404] Nail salon cut
|
Last week I was getting my nails done and the manicurist nicked the corner of my cuticle with the nail drill. There was some blood and he wiped it with his bare hand before I could stop him. I acknowledge this is not a reasonable fear to have but I am concerned about HIV. I am specifically worried if he had an open cut with blood and then touched my cut. I have tried reading similar questions on here but I believe I will gain greater reassurance from asking myself. From my understanding, my cut was too small for there to be any risk? I think I have just read conflicting information about the risks associated with cuts and was hoping you could clear it up for me!

Welcome back to the Forum. I would not be worried in the least about HIV or any other blood borne infection from the events you describe. To elaborate:
1. It is unlikely that your manicurist has HIV or any other infection
2. HIV is not transmitted by contaminated nail drills, even when nicks occur
3. Even if he had a cut or scrape on the hand he wiped the blood away with, that would not transmit any infection he might have.
I would not worry and see no reason for testing. EWH
