[Question #12456] HSV2 Worried about encounter

I am a male 33 years old married with a child. I made a huge mistake and got into a drunken CSW situation. This was two weeks ago with protected oral and vaginal inter course. This was a huge mistake and I wish I wasn’t so stupid in the moment but here I am. I have been freaking out about the possibility of genital herpes and bringing this home to my wife. Since the encounter I did experience flu like symptoms, tired, headache, and nausea. I have also felt some mild tingling/warm sensations around my pubic area and legs. I have noticed some pimple like sores on my thigh and hips recently and I am itchy. My mind is going crazy and I guess my question is could this all be caused by anxiety about the situation I’m in? I tested most likely way to soon (12 days post exposure) and all came back negative but the symptoms seems to be consistent with genital herpes or scabbies? I have had loss of appetite which could also be due to anxiety as well as diarrhea pretty consistently since this encounter. I’m on here for some expert advice and am extremely concerned I have ruined my life and family. I realize anxiety can be a powerful thing but to cause all of these symptoms as well as visible pimples on thighs has me freaking out.

Yes, I think this all could be related to the anxiety that you are experiencing from this encounter that you had.
You've never noticed any pimple-like lesions on your thigh and hips before?  Most men have them from time to time.  But if they are water-blister-like, rather than a small red lesion with hair coming out of it, they likely are folliculitis rather than herpes.  Those generally are not sexually transmitted.    If you continue to be concerned about the pimples, have them evaluated by a clinician, preferably a dermatologist.  They don't sound herpetic to me.
Using the condom for both intercourse and oral sex was an incredibly good move here, so happy you did that!
Be careful about doing the routing HSV antibody test - there are often false positives on this test; good that yours was negative.
Overall, I think you are probably just fine.

Hey Terri,

Thanks for the reply and I am truly hoping I’m in the clear here but my mind will not let it go. I have never noticed any pimples or blisters in this area before but granted I was not looking and now I am inspecting every inch of my pubic area constantly. I just think the itching and flu like symptoms has me freaked out. I woke this morning and a pimple that appeared 3 days ago is now gone completely but I still have some in other areas of thighs hip and buttocks. They arnt clustered or anything I don’t believe and generally are not painful. My wife wanted sex last night and I’m incredibly worried I may have infected her now. What are the odds with a condom that I did contract herpes and also would herpes only stay in places where you might have had contact with the virus. Meaning since I used a condom is it less likely these spots would appear on my penis and more likely they’d appear in the areas surrounding? Thighs and buttocks?

I don't have exact odds for you but I would think well over in 1 in 1,000.
When men get HSV from women using a condom, they get lesions at the base of the penis, in an area not covered by a condom.  You aren't describing that.  The flu like symptoms could be related to anything, honestly, as could the itching.
If you are concerned about any skin lesion that appears, see a clinician for another opinion in person

Thanks Terri,
I think the paranoia of herpes is kind of over. But now my mind has me on other things. I know I used protection but yesterday I saw some milky stick discharge while going to the bathroom. The discharge kind of shot out onto my testicles while I was urinating. I was tested 10 days post exposure, was this too soon, and I realize the risk of chlamydia and gonnorrhea are lowered with protection but I’m worried about the discharge I saw. I have no urgency to pee or burning sensation at all. Just this one episode of discharge which was 2.5 weeks post encounter. Any more information would be great. I am going to do a CVS at home test for chlamydia, gonnorhea, and trich.

This sounds a bit unusual, but with negative testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia earlier, I doubt that is what is going on.  It sounds like a one-off event that is unrelated to your experience to me.  If it continues, you should certainly see a clinician but I doubt that it will
