[Question #12482] Medical assessment and hsv 2
7 months ago

Hello again.
About 5-6 months ago I sent a post entitled medical assessment.
I was concerned about potential fluid in eyes. My genitals were untouched.
I spoke with Dr HH and TW on westoverheights also number 85779. No more recent events either since the MP visit.
I was largely reassured. However I tested for HIV (rapid 4th generation and RNA) and syphilis at better2know at approx 4 weeks. I was also tested - assumedly for HIV, syphilis, possibly hep c as part of the medical requirement at approximately 8 weeks.
Moving on, I was very content but wanted a final test at 16 weeks for hsv2 (I have hsv1 from childhood).
I recently ordered from stdrapidtestkits (I have used this company before) hiv, syphilis and hsv 2 https://www.stdrapidtestkits.com/
HIV and syphilis were negative - this was not a concern for me now anyhow - but the IGG hsv2 rapid test had a very faint thin line suggesting the potential for hsv2 IGG antibody.
On the instructions it does suggest hsv2 should be checked at 15 minutes but no more than 20. At first, it appeared negative. When I checked again to clean up - possibly after 20 minutes, there was a definite although faint line. I was only doing this for pure peace of mind. I will ask for an IGG test at a clinic ASAP to confirm.
is this likely a faulty test and a false result? Is the fact the IGG line was so faint any indication? Did I wait too long? Could having hsv1 - currently feel I have a non visible sore in my nose - have had any effect? Is it a valid test?
Should I go to a clinic given the events? Very concerned and this has sent me back to big anxiety. Family man and a stupid incident.

Hello doctors. I understand the need for patience, but very anxious here. I have spoken with the company in question and they suggest that the test I used could be false due to timing and cross reaction with hsv1 prior infection. Given my only potential exposure was what was described in my initial post 5-6 months ago - some brief kissing and facial grinding - where I was very careful not to let vagina ass come into contact with my eyes, mouth and nose - although the fluid concerned me - and DrHH guesstimate en of 1 in many millions and dismissal of concern, would love to here back from somebody asap. I spoke with DrHH before this. Also appears TW is currently unavailable. There is a local clinic that I may test with, but should I wait until nose sore is gone?
Just to add, I really felt very confident that there was nothing to be concerned about - this was purely for peace of mind to move on fully. Used them before and always been negative. Thanks

For these at home tests, you MUST follow the timing very carefully. Anything that you saw after 20 minutes is not accurate.
If it makes you feel better to do an IgG in person, go ahead, but be aware that there are many false positives on this test so be careful! LabCorp now is using a better test than Quest so if you have that option to choose a lab, do so.

Hi Terri. Thanks.
So based on my exposure that I sent here and westoverheights 5 months ago - 1 in millions, never see it contacted this way. Even if prolonged face sitting and grinding - no cunnilingus and absolutely no sex or even contact with my genitals - you have seen my previous posts (actually spoken with you on both forums several times as hsv has become an unhealthy obsession of mine - would you suggest better to ignore and move on?
Also, I have noticed that previous posts have been answered that suggest if one has had negative hsv2 in the past from such tests, it is much more likely to remain negative. I have had 10 negatives over the last 5 years - is this a concern as those who test false positive would rarely see this, or would you say given the incident, a false positive is my biggest concern?
Also would an active - assumedly HSV-1 internal nose sore increase hsv2 likelihood? Should I wait until it has gone? Would this have no effect?
The tested negative with an IGG value test 13 months ago after a previous chat with yourself - is it was to use the same clinic? I can send details of the test if it helps.
It simply says HSV/IGG COI, value 0.21 non reactive. Well below intermediate with is 0.5. Had negative lab tests before too in 2015 and 2019 where I was told definitively negative. Hence the faint line concerns me - used these tests too and never had a problem. Always a peace of mind approach when my anxiety spirals.
Is there a WB in the UAE if I decide to test again and obtain a positive result with IGG?
Or to summarize, if you were I, knowing what you know should I completely forget about this even with the scare I have had? Would you all but be certain that this is simply a no risk event regardless? Inaccurate tests of false positive are a far bigger threat?
I will make a decision over the next day or so based upon your responses.
Thanks Terri.

A false positive on the IgG test is a bigger concern than a false negative, correct.
The nose lesion that you are having does not make you more prone to a false positive HSV 2 result, not really. Waiting until it is healed won't make a difference.
There is no western blot in the UAE, no, but anyone can send blood to the university of Washington with a clinician order.
If I were you, I would most certainly put this to rest.

Hi Terri,
Final one on this I think - although if I decide to test, please leave my other link open to report. Feeling a bit better.
Regarding your answers, I meant is a false positive a much bigger threat statistically than the grinding on my face - skimpy panties and moist vagina? Is it foolish to think otherwise?
Also, when you write put it to rest, do you mean forget about it - negligible risk, or take the WB?
Also, how accurate is the Lab Corps as it is a better test. Much lower risk of any false positive than Quest.
Final one on- any informed prediction on whether Fred hutch foundation will find a complete cure? Is this now a when not if?
Thanks Terri.

I mean to put the worry at rest and if you can't then do the blot.
The LabCorp test has a lower risk of a false positive, correct
The Hutch gene editing is very promising indeed.
A false positive is a greater threat than the risk of face grinding, correct
