[Question #12492] HIV testing

Hi doctor I had an hiv rna test 17 days post exposure and also had an insti hiv test at 47 days and 57 days post exposure and everything was negative.. how conclusive are all the results? What are the chances of any false negative and if it's even possible for it to turn positive at a later date? How reliable is an insti hiv test at 57 days?

Welcome to the Forum. Thanks for your questions and your implied confidence in our service.
You can be entirely confident that the exposure you refer to did NOT lead to HIV infection. You have proven that both with your HIV RNA PCR test which provides conclusive results any time more than 11 days following an exposure. You have also proven you were not infected with your INSTI test results at 57 days. There is no chance of false negative results and no reason for further testing. The test will not turn positive at a later date. EWH

When is the insti test conclusive? I see some people saying it's conclusive by 90 days. Is that true? If yes should I get tested again? Sorry to keep asking. Also I did a full std panel 17 days post exposure and everything was negative should I do the std panel again?

This INSTI is and HIV antibody test and is conclusive at 8 weeks (56 days) following an encounter. There is no need for further testing. You need to stop worrying and move forward. EWH---

How about the std panel after 17 days post exposure? Would i need to do that again? Or is 17 days sufficient enough? I tested negative for everything. Also it's safe to have unprotected sex with my wife? Sorry to ask again

Please stop the repetitive questions. Your questions were answered 11 days ago. You don’t need more testing, you need to relax and move forward.
