[Question #12553] HIV-1 RNA NAAT

Dear Doctors...  I just got back a report.  And I need help interpreting it.  It says:
ORDERABLE: HIV-1 RNA NAAT
PROCEDURE: HIV-1 RNA QUALITATIVE     RESULT: Not Detected
I presume the result is suggesting a HIV NEGATIVE status.  How reliable are these results if I was tested 28 days ago?

Thanks

This result provided conclusive evidence that you did not acquire HIV from the encounters that you recently interacted with Dr. Handsfield about.  HIV RNA PCR tests are conclusive any time more than 11 days after an encounter.  There is no need for continued concern and no need for additional testing.  EWH---
