[Question #12565] Syphilis

Thank you Doctors for offering this service and your advice.
Half a year ago I did something that I very much regret. I met with several prostitutes working on the street.
We didn't do very much, there were closed mouth kisses, sometimes they kissed me on the neck more hard and touched my genitals with their hands.
A few months ago I developed what I thought was a large pimple on my neck, I am now worried it was a syphilis sore. The pimple took ~1.5 months to heal
Recently, I asked my local clinic for antibiotics, because of the risky encounters and they prescribed it to me Auro-Cefixime 400MG and ACT Azithromycin 250MG
Between the encounters and taking the antibiotics I m started a new relationship where we were sexually intimate, I'm now worried that I might have passed on a syphilis infection.
I'm worried because i feel that testing now won't show whether I might have contracted syphilis before the antibiotics
Would I have contracted syphilis from the encounter and passed it on?

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions and your implied confidence in our service. How long after your interaction with the commercial sex workers did the sore develop? The sore on your neck is unlikely to be syphilis but rather than worrying, the correct thing to do to address your concerns is to get a blood test for syphilis. If the lesion was syphilis the blood test would be positive. EWH---

Hi Dr Hook - unfortunately I don’t quite remember the time between the encounters and when i noticed the sore on my neck
I’m very happy to get a blood test and will go ahead and arrange. But i wonder if it would help explain the sore at this point (as i have already taken antibiotics and would the results not show as negative). If still helpful i would be glad to get the confirmation
I was wondering if i could ask from your experience how likely it was that syphilis could be transmitted from this type of encounter?
And whether you would have recommended testing after the encounter
Would be very thankful for your advice as I’m quite nervous about not knowing

If you have untreated, partially treated, or even treated syphilis the blood test is likely to be positive. i anticipate that the test will be negative, showing that you were not infected.
As I said above, it is unlikely that you acquired syphilis, a relatively rare STI, from the encounter you have described. As a result, if yo had asked if you needed testing, I would have said no.
You have one follow-up remaining. EWH

Thank you Dr Hook. Thats good to know. I just want to understand if i had been infected. Let me book testing.
If you could keep this thread open until i’m able to receive results, I would be very appreciative.

I'll keep the thread open and await to hear your test results for up to 30 days. When I hear your test results, I will provide further comments. When you test, please find out the name of the syphilis test that you have performed. EWH---
