[Question #12593] Herpes II Question

I have never had an outbreak after my initial one.  I have tested positive for the antibodies for Herpes II before.  I saw an article about how some tests may trigger positive from previous Chicken pox.   Is there a test I can take that is more thougough than the standard test as I have never had an outbreak in 7 years now?   I feel like I am not contagious but need more information and feel like I need a contact or better testing to determine if I am safe with a future partner.

When you had the initial outbreak, did someone take a swab test of the sores and was it positive for HSV 2?
There are false positive HSV 2 test, yes, for sure.  The one without false positives is the herpes western blot done only at the University of Washington and I could help you with that at westoverheights.com or you can work with your own provider to get that testing done.

Thank you Terri!  it is so great to have a real authority on this stuff because it is so life changing.   I believe they did do a swab when I first noticed the lesions but I've always felt it was something else.  Even the Doctor visually said he believed it was not HSV 2 but something else at the meeting.  I would love to do a definitive test and if I can do it through you vs my current primary care physician that would be even better.    Would the test only be for HSV II?

Do you know the results of the swab test?  If the swab test AND the blood antibody test are positive, then you don't need the blot.  But if only the blood test was positive and the swab negative, then the blot will be helpful in getting an accurate answer.  I can definitely help you with the blot.  You can make an appointment with me at westoverheights.com, just follow the link to "get a western blot"

The test I took was 7 or 8 years back and I don't have any recollection or paper-trail of the test other than a phone call from a rep for the clinic.  money is not a concern I just want to get the best test and information about this that I can.   And if it is positive I would love to know treatment or be connected to help.  I have a new girl in my life who I know is not keen to STD's so this is weighing on me pretty hard.   I figure with no outbreaks in 7-8 years I should at least test the best I can for now.

Then let's get you blot, that's the best test and will give you the information you need.  You'll need to wait 12 weeks after any sexual encounter to do the test for greatest accuracy.
