[Question #12658] Last HIV follow up

Dear Docs, sorry to be writing again. I am panicking. As per my previous question, I had a low risk exposure (one off kiss w closed lips q another male) 35,5 days ago. I then developed different symptoms. I had different tests already 4th gen at 8 days, PCR at 15,5 days, 4th gen at 28,5 days and PCR at 29,5 days (PCR Cobas limit of detection of 20 copies). All negative. But today I have got a terrible, terrible sore throat. Do you think it can be HIV? Also, you say PCRs are conclusive at 11 days, but what about “elite controllers”? Sorry for this further question. I’m hoping it’s the last one ever. I wanna be sure before restarting PrEP.

Sorry - need to add that I just checked med temperature; mine it’s always between 36.5 and 36.6•C, but now it’s 37.2 and I feel feverish

How unfortunate to see you returning to the Forum with more questions regarding your no risk situations. This will have to be your last question and the only reason I am replying is because of my failure to tell you that further anxiety-driven questions regarding no risk situation (i.e. blood draws, kissing, touching, etc. will likely be deleted without a reply and without return of your posting fee.
The exposure you describe was not "low" risk, it was NO risk. All of the testing you describe unequivocally PROVES that you did not acquire HIV from your contacts of concern. Your symptoms are not due to HIV. Even a so-called elite controller would have positive PCR tests as well as giving conclusive results when tested using 4th generation tests at 6 weeks. YOUR SYMOTOMS ARE NOT DUE TO HIV.
Your posts suggest that you have been on the internet looking for information. Much of what is said their is misleading and will only fuel your unwarranted anxiety.
If you are planning to start PrEP, you can do so at this time unless there have been other more recent exposures. EWH

Thanks Dr Hook. I now fully acknowledge my anxiety and am glad to hear that my symptoms are not due to HIV.
One final question just to clarify: you said “ conclusive results when tested using 4th generation tests at 6 weeks” — you again mention “at 6 weeks” do you therefore advise me to text at 6 weeks? (That is next Monday) Sorry for any confusion, I speak Spanish.
And finally - never asked about syphilis: when do you reccomend to do a VDRL test please?
I promise I won’t ask again.

Your exposure was no risk. Not for HIV, not for syphilis. You need to get a grip on yourself and move forward. There is no reason for testing related to the no risk encounter you have described. Never was.
I see no need for testing of any sort. EWH

Hi Dr Hook, hope you’re well. Briefly to tell you that just for peace of mind I tested before yesterday (Monday 17th Feb), that is, 6 weeks after the kiss and, you noted, the test was luckily negative. I then then immediately re-started taking PrREP daily so in on my third day of it.
One final question I promise — last Friday, that is, 2 days before the test, I kissed (open mouth this time) with another guy. Just kissing however I had had a complete tooth extraction 3 days prior. Do you still think kissing is no risk 3 after an extraction? Would you stop PrEP for the propuse of conclusive testing at one point, or can just move on and keep on taking it?
Thank you as ever and my best best wishes!

Please do not attribute your negative test to luck. There was no risk for acquisition of HIV from the kissing you described.
Your recent tooth extraction does not change the fact that kissing is a no risk reactivity.
I am pleased to hear that you have started PrEP. Hopefully that will help you to control your unwarranted anxiety.
As you know, with this final response, this thread will be closed. There really should be no need to return with further questions about no risk encounters. EWH.
