[Question #12685] hsv2???

I would like to ask you about hsv2. Back in May 2024 I developed a small sore next to my labia (exterior part). It was red outside and white inside I don't think it was very deep nor do I remember any pus. My doctor said it MIGHT be herpes and gave me a cream for herpes. When I pressed it, it SLIGHTLY burnt. I applied the cream and next day it was better and the following day almost entirely cured, it had shrinked a lot, there was just a miniscule thing like a small hard red pimple.. I didn't notice any scab, maybe just a tiny tiny tiny like a pin.
Previous to the sore appearing I had "pleased my self" with long nails...and also after showering I used the hairdryer to ...dry the area. I also put a cream for candida.
1)So maybe it was me that caused this sore?
2) Can it be herpes given the fact that it healed so quickly (I used of course the cream)?
3) How long does it take for the sore to be cured when medicine cream is used?

I went and had back then UNFORTUNATELY an igm2 which was "slightly positive" (I have had the chickenpox).
Since then no sores just burning vagina that resolved with a cream.
So 21 MONTHS later i.d. yesterday I had an Igg test for hsv2 that turned out NEGATIVE with <0,5 (the positive value was <0,9).
4) Can this be a false negative after 21 months?
5) Can a burning vagina that comes and goes be a symptom of herpes?

I doubt that you caused the sore - I don't think it would look quite like that. Herpes sores sometimes heal quickly - had you had sex in the past week or so before it showed up?
If this was herpes, it was more likely a recurrence than a new infection, and if that, it could heal quickly yes.
I doubt that it was a false negative. What about HSV 1? Did you test for that? Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip or inside your nose? Have you received oral sex in your lifetime?
Herpes can cause burning but so can lots of other things like mild yeast. That would not be a definitive sign of HSV, no.

As a kid I might have had cold sores in the mouth, I am NOT sure at all though.
If I had cold sores as a kid in the mouth, would this mean that this was HSV2 and the Igg test missed the infection after 21 months? I think that if you already had Hsv1 as a kid in the mouth you are" immune" and can't have it in the genital area, is that correct?
I have received oral sex from my partner who had something in his nose (like yellow spots) a month and a half prior to the sore. Also some days prior to the sore his penis touched my genital area.

Sore in the mouth are generally canker sores, not caused by HSV.
If you were my patient, I would recommend that you obtain and IgG for HSV 1. If positive, it won't say that the sore you had genitally IS HSV 1 but it could be from your description. But the news here is that I doubt the IgG would miss an HSV 2 infection this far out from a lesion, if that's what it was. It could certainly have been something else, though it does sound concerning.
If you do test for HSV 1 and it is positive, it cannot tell you if the infection is oral or genital, but if negative, there is a good chance that you have neither HSV 1 nor HSV 2. To be extra certain, you could obtain the best antibody test, the herpes western blot.

Also, is it correct that 1 in 4 women have genital herpes (25% of sexually active women)? If yes, why is it "such a big deal"?

that is approximately correct, with variation based on age, sex
For most people, it isn't a big deal but the stigma remains - I think a big part of that is that one cannot know when one is infectious so can't be sure about transmission, at least that's what I hear a lot. Your posts are finished now, if you have further questions, you can post again.

I would love to but I am afraid I can't afford it.
Should I repeat the test in another lab? Is there an other more reliable test in Europe?
If it is however hsv2 am I protected from HIV if my future partner uses condoms?

Yes, if you are having sex with someone who is HIV positive, and the condom stays intact and you actually do have HSV 2, then you are protected against HIV.
