[Question #12696] Unusual encounter and risk of HIV

Was having party with friends in outdoor park. Two friends picked up fight. One of them got severly injured and had severe bleeding. On the park sitting chair(steel chair)few blood drops had fallen and I poured water from bottle to clean it. It was dark and one of the friends had his mobile flash on while I was pouring water to remove blood from the chair. Some droplets splashed back onto my hands and legs. I didn't pay much attention then as I thought it to be water droplets.
We all were highly intoxicated so went home and slept. Next morning I noticed tiny red spots on my thighs near joints(was wearing shorts) . Now I am terrified to the core as I am afraid some blood droplets (while cleaning blood last night) might have splashed onto the bug bites that I had on my arms and legs from that day. I remember 2-3 of those big bites on thighs had popped up and bled(due to me itching those bug bite bumps) during last night when we were partying. Also I had little wound with scab on my hand.
1.What if I might have popped some bug bites and caused it to bled while pouring water on the blood. what is the risk of hiv, and hep B & C if blood (1-2 minutes old) might have splashed onto the freshly popped up bug bites.
2.What if some had splashed on the scabbed wound.

I asked one of my friends and she told me that the boy who sustained injury and was bleeding is frequent visitor to CSWs and he might be having HIV

Welcome to the Forum.  Thanks for your questions.  I’m be glad to inform you that your concerns are groundless.  For starters, you do not know that the person who was bleeding has HIV.  Despite the fact that he may see commercial sex workers, it is statistically very unlikely that he has HIV.  More importantly, HIV is NOT spread through exposure to droplets of blood or water containing blood.  This is the case even if a drop landed on a cut, scrape, or insect bite.  No risk. There is no need for testing and certainly no medical or scientific reason for concern.  EWH---

I am 100℅ sure that the red spots were dried blood because the moment I washed it with soap in the morning it went off and again I am 100℅ sure the dried blood spots were from that boy's blood splash from chair as the dried blood spots were round/circular or of similar shape.
Below questions are not mere imaginary questions, I am asking below questions as there are very high chances of occurence of the below cases due to the blood being fresh as well as my popped up / itched bug bites wounds which had bled a while ago before the incident. I might have rubbed/scratched those bug bites during me cleaning the blood on chair or after cleaning.
1.My main concern is the fresh wound(created due to rubbing/scratching/itching of the bug bites which bled as mentioned above). I am concerned if the blood from that boy which was on chair had landed on the freshly popped up bleeding wound or very recently healing wound. Am I at risk.
2.Furthermore if the blood had landed on the fresh wound(created due to rubbing/Scratching/itching of the bug bites which bled as mentioned above) or very recently healing wound and then I might have rubbed/scratched again. What is the risk in this case.
3.Since we were intoxicated, I slept the moment I reached home and forgot to wash my body. I did not wash the blood last night and washed it in the morning after almost 6-7 hours. What is the risk in this case.

4.I want to ask about one more incident that happened with while using washroom in mall. I clearly remember the water in commode hole looked clean, however after using it and when I stood up to flush I saw some blood in water and some on the commode sink too. I am 100℅ sure it was not mine as I was not on my periods and to be doubly sure I even inserted my finger in vagina and touched my anus(Although I used washroom for urination only) from outside to check if it was my blood but I found none. Hence it must have been a period blood of someone who used it earlier. I had used it for URINATION only. What is the risk of hiv due to backsplash on labia/vagina/anus area. I am virgin and have not had sex till now so my vagina is not that opened up. This incident happened quite sometime back, however the recent blood incident led to me remember that washroom incident causing panic. What is your risk assessment here.

I don't why these things happen with me only. I asked my friends and they told that it has never happened with them. May be they are more attentive than me.

Thank you sir for your response and sorry for my long questions.

5.If while using washroom if some blood doplets had splashes back into vagina and then when I inserted my finger to check. My finger might have rubbed the droplets inside or the inner labia or vagina. Is this a risk of hiv.
6.Again I did not wash my vagina after urination. Is there any risk in this case.

This is a repetitive follow up.  Please don’t expect the answers to change.  I stated above that HIV is not transmitted through exposure of skin to blood droplets or water containing blood. I also stated that the presence of a fresh scrape or insect bite in no way changes that fact.thus:

1.  See above.  No risk.
2.  Repetitive.  Still no risk.
3.  Delayed removal does not make this theoretical exposure a risk.
4.  Similar to responses regarding the recent exposure this was also a no risk event.

You appear to have a misunderstanding regarding how HIV is transmitted.  HIV is ONLY transmitted through DIRECT sexual contact with an untreated, infected person or injection of infected material deep into tissue.  It is not transmitted through contact with infectious material on an inanimate object or a splash or droplet contact.

You have one follow up remaining .  EWH

1.I wanted to ask whether washing immediately or late makes any difference in risk in two events that I described.

2.When you say that delayed washing does not make this theoretical exposure a risk. What do you mean by theoretical exposure among the two events. Is it contact of blood with intact skin or with contact with the wound or in 2nd event backsplash of blood to vagina or anus.

3.Do both the event carry any risk considering all the things whether contact of blood with intact skin or damaged skin (and then me rubbing) or with vagina(inserting finger to check as detailed above) or anus etc and not washing the contaminated site immediately as detailed above and Whether I need testing of any sort. PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR SOMEWHAT A REPEAT QUESTION. I JUST WANT A FINAL RISK ASSESSMENT.

4.What sort of activities inject infected material deep into tissue.

5.Under what circumstances blood contact carries risk in the environment.

6.Can I forget these two incidents and relax for sure without any worry.

Please forgive me for my anxiety and OCD.
Thank you for your answers and listening to me patiently.

These are largely repetitive follow-ups reflecting your OCD.  Responses will be brief and then the thread will be closed.  Should you return to the Forum with further questions about these sorts of NO RISK events, your questions may not be answered and your posting fee will not be returned.  The best thing you could do for yourself is to pursue professional help addressing your OCD.

1.  Repetitive.  I've already told you delayed washing makes no difference.
2.  The idea that contact of the skin with blood is a theoretical concern NOT supported by the facts.
3.  As you point out, this is repetitive.  The answer is not going to change.  The contacts and supposed contacts you describe did not put you at risk for HIV
4. Injection, typically with a needle
5. Virtually none
6.  Yes, you should relax and move forward without concern.

End of thread.  EWH
