[Question #12714] Potential exposures

Hello, i’d like some help figuring out if have been exposed to anything from a couple of incidents.
I had one encounter MSM over 2 weeks ago, this was just oral both ways. The second encounter was a week ago and was oral both ways and protected anal, me as the top. I asked both partners if they were disease free and they said yes but just never know i guess. Im almost certain there was no condom breakage as it came off easily and i didnt notice anything at the time.
Prior to this i was last tested for everything in December and received all clear results. Should i wait for 4 weeks post my last exposure to test again? And would you consider condomless sex with my female partner safe to do? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to our forum. Thank you for your questions and congratulations on your measures to practice safe sex. It will do much to protect you.
The exposures you describe were very, very low risk. Condom protected rectal intercourse is virtually no risk as long as the condom did not break and yours did not. Giving or receipt of oral sex is very low risk. There has never been a case of HIV proven to be caused by receiving oral sex and the risk of performing oral sex on an untreated, infected partner is less than one infection in 10,000 exposures, on average. Thus, your risk of HIV is close to zero, particularly given the fact that you did the right thing and ask your partners regarding their status and recent testing.
The main STI that you were at risk for from oral sex both ways is gonorrhea. You can test for gonorrhea anytime more than 3 to 4 days following an exposure and anticipate Conclusive results. In this situation you describe, I would suggest testing both of a urine specimen and a throat swap for gonorrhea, but would not otherwise worry and would not hesitate following testing to have unprotected sex with your regular partner. I anticipate that your test results will be negative, but the only way to be absolutely sure is with testing.

Thanks for your reply.
Am i right in thinking that having no symptoms of gonorrhoea after 7 days is a good indicator that I do not have it?

Yes, the absence of symptoms is a strong, but not perfect indicator of the absence of urethral (penile) infection. Only about 2 to 4% of penile gonorrhea infections are asymptomatic. Most oral infections, however, are asymptomatic. EWH---

At 11 days post exposure i started to get some pain in the tip of my penis. This could be from checking my urethra and looking inside for symptoms too much i accept. But would this be considered a symptom at this time frame? After nearly 48 hours the feeling has mostly subsided. I am booked to test in a few days.

Testing is always a personal decision and I anticipate that your tests will be negative, providing you with additional reassurance that you were not infected. Like you, I suspect that your discomfort may be due to repeated self-examination. 10 + days is late for the symptoms of the most common STIs.
As you know, we provide up to 3 responses to each client's questions. This this thread is now complete and will be closed. Take care. EWH
