[Question #12725] Talk me off the ledge

|
In the early morning hours on Tuesday, I had a random encounter with a bar hookup. This was protected oral and vaginal. It was rougher than I am used to. Around 24 hours after the encounter I began to feel pain in my penis as well as tingling in the scrotum and bladder regions. It does not hurt when I urinate although there is some discomfort. We are about 52 hours after the encounter and the pain has not subsided. Do you believe I am at risk? Should I have any testing done? What symptoms should I look out for going forward? If pain is not caused by STI, what could be the problem?

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions and your implied confidence in our service. I'll be glad to comment? Congratulations on your practice of safe, condom protected sex. It will do much to keep you sexually healthy. STIs virtually never lead to the onset of symptoms within 24 or even 36 hours of acquistion of infection. My guess is that your symptoms are more related to the "rough" nature of your encounter than an STI. My advice would be to observe things for another 24 hours. If this discomfort is traumatic it should improve. OTOH if it persists or worsens, there may be value to seeing an experienced health care professional and to seek testing. In the interim I would urge you to avoid repeated or vigorous self-examination. This can make traumatic irritation worse. If these are symptoms of an infection, the signs and symptoms should be quite obvious
