Hi Dr,

Sorry to bother you again . However had a few more clarifications :

1. I spoke to my partenr he said though he has tested 10 months back negative for HIV he has hooked up after that quite a few times using condoms and had insertive anal sex with other men and unprotected oral sex. This got me a bit worried

2. You said rimming is no risk . However what if his saliva had traces of blood how would i know ?

3. Also we indulged in deep kissing and he fingered me . Would that put me at any risk ?

I have NEVER indulged in anal sex. I also Have NOT had receptive fellatio in the last 4 years .

Request you to please advise

This is a repetitive, anxiety driven post which is a waste of money and of no help to you.  Asking "what if" questions of this sort really does not help.  Straight to your questions:

1. I spoke to my partenr he said though he has tested 10 months back negative for HIV he has hooked up after that quite a few times using condoms and had insertive anal sex with other men and unprotected oral sex. This got me a bit worried
That he was negative 10 months ago is good, as is his statement that he practices safe sex.  He has indicated he is careful and was forthright about what he does.  This is about as good as can be expected if you, like him are going to have casual partners which is certainly your right.

2. You said rimming is no risk . However what if his saliva had traces of blood how would i know ?
No risk means no risk, even if there was blood in his saliva.

3. Also we indulged in deep kissing and he fingered me . Would that put me at any risk ?
You've already been told there is no risk to kissing (including deep kissing) or masturbation.

You need to relax.  You have two follow-ups remaining.  When this thread is complete, should you return with additional repetitive and/or anxiety driven questions you may not receive a reply and your posting feel will not be returned.  EWH

Hi Dr,

Thanks for your revert . A few follow ups

1: If someone is NOT having anal sex , should they consider Prep ? I mean I really want to have oral sex but i have NOT. Should i use condoms or is it safe to have insertive and receptive oral sex with a man ?

2. I also gave him love bites and he had a few marks . Would that put me at a risk ?

3. The same way is getting love bites a risk for HIV?

4. What sexual practices would be safe in terms of HIV. I am not able to enjoy due to this constant worry . Request you to please advise

1.  PrEP is a personal decision.  It is rarely needed following a single exposure.  Persons with multiple regular exposures to partners with possible HIV may benefit from PrEP.  This should be discussed with your doctor who may prescribe it and then follow you.

2. No

3.  No

4.  HIV is most often acquired due to penetrative ano-genital sex with an untreated infected person, giving or receiving but even then the risk of infection is less than 1% per exposure and often far less.  Condom use throughout exposures reduces risk to virtually zero.  Your risk can be further reduced by asking partners if they are infected, when they were last tested, and the results of testing.  Partners who are taking PrEP themselves tend to be low risk.

One follow up remaining.  EWH

hi Dr,

Few clarifications

1. If someone gives me a blowjob without  a condom is it risky ?

2. If i give a blowjob do i need to use a condom ?

3. What are the other std risk from oral sex ?

4. When should one consider PEP?

My partner got tested again 3 days back and sent me the report . It has come negative . However i have a slight worry of what if he is in the window period ?

Can i indulge in getting rimmed , fingered , blown and kissing freely ? Or do I need to worry about HIV risk here ? Please advise . Thanks

Final responses
1.  There are no proven cases of HIV due to receipt of oral sex.
2.  The estimated risk of acquiring HIV from performing oral sex on an HIV infected, untreated partner is estimated to be less than 1 infection for every 10,000 acts of fellatio, on average.  Condom use eliminates this risk.
3.  Primarily gonorrhea, very, very rarely other STIs including chlamydia
4.  Following known exposure to a partner likely to have HIV or in a setting where a person has multiple exposures to high risk partners.  This is a discussion to have with your own health care provider.

Your partner's test indicates that he could not have given you HIV,  The "window" is largely a myth.

Receipt of masturbation and oral sex is not known to put a person at risk for HIV.

This thread is complete.  Further questions will be deleted without a response.  EWH
